The saguaro worm is a hostile mob found in deserts. Every one in thirty cactuses will actually be this beast. It will appear as a three block tall cactus, but it will be slightly different. Its texture will be slightly less saturated.
Once you are three blocks away, this beast will pop out.
It has the ability to pick up the player and deal 3 hearts of damage, and then throw him or her up to seventeen blocks away and up to six blocks in the air, like you might throw a ball. But, once the player is eight blocks away it will pop back into its regular cactus shape.
The saguaro cactus will never move from its spot, remaining rooted to the ground. It will also attack any mob, hostile or not, unfortunate to get close.
It has nine hearts of health and drops 3-5 cactus, 0-3 flint, and even sometimes random drops from any overworld mobs, like it had eaten them.
I like it, its simple and would make the desert more interesting. However, 5 hearts of health and only 2.5 damage, with no ranged attack is way too easy. ½ support.

Your brain is so powerful, it would take a state of the art computer the size of a factory to come even close to matching the processing power.
A desert "nightmare"? In appearance, maybe, but only in appearance. It's too weak to be a threat (on the other hand, it's probably better this way, since we can't have deserts being significantly more lethal than all the other biomes). The idea itself I like, though, it's another way to get flint and it isn't tedious as heck.
It'd spice up deserts a bit which is also a good thing.

I buffed it just a bit. It is too scary looking to be so weak.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that who cares? He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!
I like it, but I'm positive you stole this (I know you took the model, that's for sure) from the DivineRPG mod thread.
Eh, I support either way.
It has the same model, but I changed the mechanics a lot. The name is also the same until I can make a better one. http://divinerpg.net/wiki/Saguaro_Worm
i love it, but i hope there is a way for these to respawn or reappear throughout the world, and a way to move them somewhere else, i'd love having a tank with these guys in it, like pet sharks only more cactusish, would they be spawned with a spawn egg or something?.
also, the texture is awesome, reminds me of aliens, also, they should be immune to arrows or something so you can't just arrow spam them.
Yeah, these would end up like Silverfish, never seen in multiplayer. They should spawn rarely in deserts, like as rare as an enderman.
This is a great idea for a mod (which it already is), though I'm a little unsure if I'd like to see this in default Minecraft.
It's a fun idea (debatable whether it is original, since the idea has been used in DivineRPG for a while), but I'm not too sure that I would like to have a cactus try to eat me in default Minecraft. If it were to be added, I think it should be toggle-able; not everyone will enjoy the jump-scares in the desert.
As a nod to tequila worms, perhaps it should also poison the mob that it attacks.
We wanna see zombies getting poisoned by the Saguaro Worm. I think this acts as deadly security, although it's going to hurt you if you're not careful!
support i like the idea of a little danger in the desert, though i think it should poison you since it will only hit you once without you being prepared so it could be a little more lethal

Anything to moves into the direction of a sarlaac pit is cool.

Also, nice one on the buff, Support!

Full support.

Why would it be poisonous? Maguey worms aren't toxic.
Oh, I see.
Also, 1 in 30 sounds like a bit too common. 1 in 50 or 60 sounds a bit better.
What did you think I meant?
