I am not a coder or texture maker. I am just your average minecrafter with my own ideas on how to improve my own minecraft experience and maybe others (if they like them) as well.
Calling people an idiot will not help bolster your argument. What if you want to make a mod that only adds new ores and thus need a lot of ore IDs? What if you install two mods which both have Copper ore?
A modder does essentially have unlimited space; it is up to him to work out how to best utilise it. Yes, there are ID limits, but this is different. What is this going to add to modding? More fuss? More hassle? More incompatibility?

Yes.
I am not saying to restrict modders freedom. They would still be able to do what ever they please to make what they want to happen to happen. I wrote that post like five mins. before I left for work and did not have time to put down all I was thinking so now that I am off work I am going to up date it so please reread the opening page.

Never gonna happen, sorry. The way the forge ore-dictionary works makes the ores/ingots/nuggets/plants/gems etc interchangeable. If its what you want I can make a quick mod that changes one type into another, but there are plenty of mods out there that do that already (with their own block, allowing for more control). Besides, as of 1.7 there are no more block/item ids, making this idea obsolete. Forge would also have to work out which textures to use etc.If you want anything remotely like this (ie only one type of each item produced), you would have to ask the forge team very nicely to re-code the ore dictionary (not gonna happen) to use only the item from the first mod that adds the item. It is possible, but pointless, sorry.
Mods that allow interchanging items (that I have used, they also do more stuff): Omnitools: Forge Lexicon block (not updated) MineFactoryReloaded: Unifier block (only updated for 1.5.2)

And I'm sure there are many others.
I under stand that it cant be done. But if you could make a mode that could do that It would be great. The main reason that I had put this up was simply that I was getting tired of my inventory filling up with several of the same ore that were not stackable. I am currently playing under MC 1.6.4

I would like comments (good or bad) to help me adjust my ideas so that hopefully some one will help me bring them to life.
