This looks like a very good idea, very well thought out.
I completely agree that the Mushrooms need more uses, as they are becoming more and more of less worth of collecting. This would add a lot of variety to the game, and a reason to explore more. Especially Truffles would definitely be worth of exploring, because as you said, you could trade them with Villagers for high price, they restore your hunger and bring experience points. The Orange Fungus and Glow Cap would add a lot to forests and caves. Total support.
Exactly. I like mushrooms for how nice of a "eerie" decoration they are, and stew, but this blows the roof off!
Yes, I would like to see biome specific mushrooms as well, especially in the mushrooms biome. I had a thought of thin mushrooms in clumps similar to enoki that could go as a grass there, since its quite flat. I will definitely try to do more glowing mushrooms, much more decoration and variety that way. That link is great as well, thanks! I would love to do lichen but I'm not sure if that fits with the mushroom theme going here, what does everyone else think?
The lichen that slowly spreads (similar to grass) across stone? Yeah I like that as long as it has a max radius.
What about something similar to the coral types, but maybe grows on the underside of blocks?
What about growing them into giant mushrooms? Which will be able to be grown and which will not?
Not all will be able to grown into giant ones, for Op reasons such as truffles, and most of the poisonous ones won't be as there's not much point in harvesting those. I will include more information in the upcoming farming section though.

I was thinking of making lichen more like orange fungus, mostly for decorative purposes. Anyway, hanging mushrooms? That's an idea. I'll see if I can think of something.
feels too much like a mod and mooshrooms are already OP
How does it feel like a mod? Flowers were given an update so why shouldn't mushrooms? Also, mooshrooms easy food source is easily balanced by mushroom stew's unstackability.
These mushrooms seem quite unique and cool, you have a nice suggestion here. Question though, will the glow cap emit a light level equivalent to the torch/glowstone or will it be more like a redstone torch?
Thanks for the support! It will be in between as redstone light is too dull and a natural mushroom should not be as bright as a flame.
I love the idea, mushrooms are fascinating in real life and can be in minecraft too! Full support!
My add-on, though i'm in class and don't have the time to detail its properties or how it should be implemented, is the sulfur shelf or yellow shelf mushroom that grows on oak trees, such as the ones in the link. http://www.digii.eu/...s-sulphureusjpg
Adding such types of mushrooms, as well as adding logs in forests to represent fallen trees, would give forests much more life i think.
I've wanted to do a shelf mushroom since I first started this post. I think they are one of the most interesting mushrooms. The problem is there isn't really any blocks or items that I know of that could be retextured to look like a shelf mushroom. If any one has any thoughts on this, I would definently like to hear it!
Hmmm, I like everything but the truffles giving you XP.

The truffles give you exp as they are very rare and it gives a choice between selling them with villagers, or having a treat yourself. Thanks for the support though!

The only thing I can think of at the moment is maybe a button. Perhaps an item frame (if you can make it invisible) with an item that lays flat, but sticks out a bit like carpets do.
The long anticipated shelf fungus has arrived! What do you think? I know the shape could be done better, but the trapdoor was the closest thing to a shelf fungus that I could find.

Maybe cocoa pods?
Good idea but they are a bit too small for what I had in mind for this mushroom. I mainly wanted the shelf mushroom to act as natural platforms for an alternative to ladders. I'll see what people think though.
I love the shelf fungus idea. You could make some interesting parkour with those.
Also, I'm assuming shelf fungi can only grow (or be placed) on dark oak (roofed forest oak) wood? or will they grow/be placeable on any wood only? or can they be placed on any block? or can you not place them at all?
I like all these ideas except for the truffles. I think the truffles should be hard to find as you said but, I think they should be hard to grow. And what I mean by that is that truffles should spawn in certain parts of certain biomes. So, if you find a (or multiple) truffle(s) you can later return to that place and see if any more truffles have spawned, however, a truffle "spawn" we'll call them, only generate truffles a few at a time and rarely at that. But, over all it is a great idea. I like it and you have my support.

Don't worry, I'm not to keen on that either.

And yes, I am still the Master of Disaster.
Some of the mushroom species are kinda unnecessary and OP, like the edible ones in caves. The glowing ones are great, though.
