. Hello people of the minecraft forums. Today I have one of my shortest topic posts ever for you. Also, I have used search to look and this has not been posted before in the first several pages, and probably not farther.
. My suggestion is that since Ice is renewable and (once you have silk touch) easy to obtain in large amounts, Packed Ice should be made renewable by being craft-able from Ice. I have two main possible crafting recipes for it in mind.
. 1. This would give 1 packed Ice.
. 2.This would give either 4 Packed Ice or 1.
. And believe it or not, this is my entire suggestion. Please tell me what you think, and vote on the recipe!

Those ice spike plains are extremely rare, and have proven little use in survival. So why not have a recipe so the player is not afraid to make use of this decoration block?

I think that the 4 ice - 1 packed ice is a fair condensing.

Slippery surfaces that don't melt. Plus, I like the opaque texture of packed ice personally. Packed ice could be especially useful for making mob traps (ex. slowing them down while fire on the walls burns them.)
I support the first recipe. I would like to be able to obtain Packed Ice in a way which does not require me to ruin the beauty and rarity of a ice spikes biome. Also, this recipe would make Packed Ice renewable.
I'll say no on this. Firstly, that makes the ice spikes biome useless, what's the use of even going there anymore then? In fact, it didn't even have a real use. People only went there just because of the looks or to collect the new block.
It's like saying since dirt is renewable, we should make recipes for Podzol and Mycelium out of it.

@Flying_Bat Packed Ice specifically has the word 'packed' in it, implying it's made from regular ice. It is misleading to be unable to craft it. Mycelium is similar to dirt, but I don't see how i could mix dirt and get mycelium. Sandstone is (generally) only in deserts but players can craft it with sand from rivers without ever going to the desert.

As it stands now, packed ice just seems like an aesthetic block, so I don't see why it should be unable to craft with regular ice.
