What about if podzol could only spread to dirt blocks under leaves? Since it looks like fallen leaves, and you would have to make an effort to farm it.
The point is that Pozol as a block type is quite rare and could be used as a building material in some projects.... without having to be so destructive as to eradicate all of the stuff in the biomes where it is found when in survival mode. It seems reasonable that some kind of mechanic should happen for additional Podzol to form if some is removed for other purposes.
It doesn't have to be a sort of grass spreading mechanic as it can be something where Podzol needs to have some raw dirt under some Spruce trees or some other similar mechanic. The grass spreading mechanic is currently what is in-game at the moment for Grass and Mycellium blocks to form, so it seems like a natural fit for something like Podzol. It just seems silly that there is no other similar mechanic for Podzol.
I honestly had no idea that it didn't spread....you think that would be common sense? However podzol is supposed to be something like pine litter on the ground, or just like a forest lining, so I suppose when you actually think about it it does make sense that it doesnt spread.
Podzol in real life is just a type of soil that accumulates in coniferous, or boreal forests.
In minecraft it is just dirt covered with dead leaves. Dead leaves do not grow and spread like grass.
There is no logical reason why podzol should spread.
The only way I would be happy with it would be if podzol accumulated under coniferous trees as if dead leaves had fallen onto the ground. Otherwise it would make no sense.
Maybe if seasons were added to minecraft it could accumulate under trees in Autumn when the leaves died. However I doubt seasons will be added.
PODZOL DOES NOT GROW. IT IS NOT A KIND OF GRASS. :3
Considering what it's supposed to be, leaf litter, I can't support it spreading because that makes absolutely no sense... There are two ways, however, that could allow for easy creation of Podzol.
1: It makes sense that you could craft it with dirt and spruce leaf blocks. 2: Giant spruce trees could cause the soil beneath them to become podzol naturally throughout the course of time.
Both of these would work out great; it makes obtaining the block unique...but not too terribly difficult. Either grow a giant spruce and wait...or get silk touch for leaf blocks and combine them with dirt.
Yes, but it shouldn't spread where there is already grass
It should only spread in Mega Taiga. In all other biomes it should stay put. This allows it to repair itself, so you don't slowly run out of podzol.
Or maybe it would spread to dirt in certain other biomes, but only if nothing else is trying to spread there. In Mega Taiga dirt that is in a podzol spread area could become grass or mycelium, but the podzol could take it over anyway.
I have no idea why Mojang didn't do that in the first place.
Course dirt is a type of dirt that grass cannot spread too.
Here's a banner:
holy big image.
I'd love to see podzol spread.

Read the suggestion wrong, thought he wanted dirt roads or something.
Like the above said, we don't need podzol to spread to dirt.

This is my DA page!
Agreed
This. It makes no sense for a dead grass or w/e to spread.
unless you craft it, Partial Support.
