Hello, just wanted to make a small suggestion. Although ostensibly simple, for many Port Forwarding to get their server running properly can be a huge hassle. I know I had some trouble for a while, wrestling with my router to find where I needed to go. So, how about this: The server.exe could open 25565 on it's own. I'm no tech-head, but I'm certain this is within the realm of possibility. What do you all think?
I'm very sure it will not work that way. Because if it did, other programs (bad ones) would simply open up a port and start messing with your computer.
Yup, as many have mentioned, forcing a port open would make all sorts of security software try to remove Minecraft, and would also leave your computer pretty vulnerable.
It will probably make it where it deletes the SERVER SOFTWARE, I doubt it would delete MC, and I had a autoportforward thing once, but the port isnt open anymore so you cannot hack me. (Easily)

Minecraft uses TCP. Most games use UDP. With UDP you can use a feature called "UDP hole punching" which works without port forwarding. Minecraft should use UDP, but it does not. TCP is not good for games.

Check out this mod, which now has a 1.8 brother to the 1.7 version.
