There is a very brief summary at the end, for those whom do not wish to read the post.
The unfortunate thing is that a jukebox has no inventory slot. If it did, our lives would be easier and the jukebox would actually be used. Instead, it just collects dust, and I just collect music discs and hang them on the wall. That's not cool! Music is supposed to be heard! Not showed off visually!
I went to test some things with the jukebox today, going to give someone a functioning idea for their multiplayer server, figuring the control over the jukebox would have some more options by now. I was surprised that no other item could place a disc into a jukebox, not even from the top. I was absolutely astonished. It just seemed like common sense to me.
So I figure, for simplicity's sake, hopper can place disc in jukebox (from top?). While song is playing, comparator kicks out a charge of two. If disc is in it but song is off, charge of 1. Hopper can suck disc out of the bottom, stopping music if it is playing.
Nothing more complicated than that. I personally don't think hopper needs to be on the top to push in disc. Maybe, though, it can be dropped or dispensed into from the top. The graphic is a big hole there. That's all stuff idc about, though. I would just like to see comparator and hopper usage. The jukebox is way overdue for an update.
Picture assumes no delay between disc going into jukebox and jukebox outputting the "playing" charge.
I'm fine with having to build a manual reloader / replayer around this concept. Minecraft is about keeping it simple, and using those simple tools to do great things.
Hoppers can place a disc in jukebox (starts play)
Hoppers can remove disc from jukebox (stops play)
Comparator pulls charge of 1 from jukebox if has unplaying disc
Comparator pulls charge of 2 from jukebox if has playing disc
