I really like the idea of roofed forests and so far have enjoyed exploring them in the new snapshots, but I definitely think they can be improved. While exploring today I noticed an enderman walking through a roofed forest and I thought he fit in really nicely. Perhaps endermen spawns could be increased in the biome? Now I don't mean to have insane amounts of endermen like in the end, but maybe double the spawn rate. I feel like the roofed forest is supposed to be a darker, scarier, and more challenging place and endermen certainly add to that. Speaking of darker, I think they need to be darker. More canopy to block out more sunlight please! A good variant would be one in the center of the roofed forest where the trees are all taller and pretty much completely block out the sun. Perhaps there could be cave spider spawners with the webs rarely in that part...
Just some ideas that I think would improve the biome, feel free to suggest others and say what you think about mine ^-^
Desert, plains, anything flat is a great hunting ground for endermen. I can get a stack of pearls in a couple of nights with access to these (common) biomes.
A half stack per night? On "Zombie Apocalypse mode so most mobs are now zombies and other mobs much more rare" 1.6.2 version? Using what, a Looting X sword?? I just wonder how you do it.
Not sure about the Enderman spawn rate, but I love the idea of the roofed forest being higher off the ground, and spider spider spawners inside a specific part which could be a generated structure. Maybe a giant tree that holds a special dungeon sized room with a spider spawner and an opening at one end. Better yet, how about giant trees that contain dungeons or chests? I would love to see more overworld treasure chests.
Support, I also suggest that the trees are taller so it will be easier to manuver and a new special type of leaf that is transparent like normal leaves, but doesn't let light through.
Nice! also, as another idea, how about a new type of mushroom spawns there? it's a mystical glowing blue mushroom, with a white stem. When eaten, the have a 50/50 chance to give you either a random positive or negative effect. Also, can be grown into large ones, and another thing is glowing 'XP' style fireflies, that add atmosphere to it. So, slow moving glowing xp orbs (no real light given off, just for cools)

Aren't you a lucky ducky?
Anyway...oh, Roofed Forests. Where should I begin? Well, they're not that bad, but I reckon they could receive a lot of improvements.
Firstly, there should be less giant mushroom spawns. The amount of giant mushrooms that can appear, coupled with the fact that Mushroom Islands are less common, makes the Mushroom Islands near worthless. All they have now are the Mooshrooms and Mycelium (and weird/unecessary trait of having no hostile mobs whatsoever). Less giant mushrooms would also lower the amount of unfitting colour in the Roofed Forest.
Secondly, the trees should have their own wood and leaves. I am very surprised that the developers haven't developed unique blocks for the acacia trees and these trees (along with the ones found in Swamps, but that has been the case for a long time), along with the ability to grow the mega spruce trees. These trees should be called canopy trees or dark trees or something, along with wood, leaves and saplings that fit in.
Thirdly, there should be another varient with thicker, talled trees that should appear in the innermost parts of the biome. This varient would almost be as dark as night, with spider webs, many monsters and the occasional "super-big" tree, with spiders and webs within.
Fourthly, the trees in general should be bigger (mainly the thickness of the canopy).
Fifthly, underneath the actual tree canopy is just yuck. The grass colour is offputting and doesn't transition well with other biomes, and the only other features below the trees are just tall grass. If the grass colour was alterred a bit (maybe starting just like the grass colour of Forests but getting darker and darker the further inwards you travel through the Roofed Forest) and many mushrooms were added, along with the previously mentioned spider webs, the place could actually look very nice.
I would like to see the tress about twice as tall and more "roofed" making it always accessible to hostile mobs spawns.
little mushrooms should spawn more frequently too, and have giant dungeon trees which are randomly generated structures (like the great Duku tree in Legend of Zelda)
Well... I hate spiders, and since spiders spawn everywhere, and with plenty of abandonned mines to hunt poisonous spiders, a biome where extra of these little f***ers would spawn, would be to much for me. For enderman you can always go to the end. But a new type of wood and leaves would be much appreciated.
EH, I 0odn't mind the spiders.. they give a RP element to the game- i mean, what big hit RP game HASN't had spiders?
Hey guys sorry about this possibly being in the wrong section. I know its a suggestion but its about a part of a snapshot that was recently released so I thought maybe it belonged in the recent snapshots/updates section.
Anyways, thanks for all the great feedback. As for the people saying we already have the end and abandoned mineshaft for endermen and cavespiders... these spawn rates will not be as high and it is more for a better environment in the biome than to just have another place to farm those mobs or something. I also really like the idea of the giant tree dungeon. Some people complain about too many generated structures, but you could always just not go in them or turn generated structures off before you generate a world.
I like to think of roofed forests as dark versions of forests where the light doesn't shine as much and monsters and other creepy things lurk, so support.
I agree with all your points except the second one, my bags are full of different kinds of wood already.
And a stack of ender pearls in a few nights is rather unrealistic.
Oh come on! Isn't it incredibly confusing when you get Spruce wood from a tree that is very obviously not a Spruce? The fact that the wood is Spruce and the leaves are Oak makes me confused as to what the trees are even supposed to be. I'm sure if you don't like the multiple wood, just try to get wood from a specific tree (unless you're a nomad who likes to hoard wood and leaves, I'm sure that wouldn't be hard).
