Disclaimer: This also includes some minor tweaks to the inventory system. ALL number negotiable.
Currently we have one storage container. The almighty, ever-filling chest. I propose firstly two additional storage containers. Barrels, used solely to store liquids. And larger (2x2 perhaps) wooden/metal "Storage Containers" (names are cool) used to store raw building materials (wood dirt stone etc etc).
These would add aesthetic value to our current buildings, while also allowing impressive storage displays and easier organization (Valuable go in that chest while all the wood goes in that wooden box thing). Currently, there is little else to make them worthwhile.
Thinking on a way to make them useful I though about the inventory tweaking needs/wants. It would require dynamic stacking, meaning that items would stack differently depending on what container they were in (though things that don't stack anywhere now likely should still not stack).
Player Inventory: Reduce raw building materials (dirt stone wood logs ore* and solid crafted blocks included, wool torches Plants etc. not included) stack limit to 20. This would limit the amount of "OMG FORT IN A BOX" we could carry while still allowing us to carry decent amounts of materials. Things that currently do not stack (armor weapons food) should remain non stack-able.
Ingots and some other things may also need some slight reduction from 64 (42 or so maybe, *might include ores?).
May also want to remove a line MAYBE.
Chests: Inventory stack limits the same with the exception of "valuables" (ingots, coal, diamonds especially, gold if it gets a use). Reduce space by a line, double chest acts the same by doubling the new space limit.
Barrels: Holds water. See the Thread for more details. I really liked the idea so I stole it HAHA.
Storage Containers: Shares the same space limit as the vanilla inventory (what we have now) but also restore stacks for raw materials to a much higher value (64 again I suppose). Since they take up a larger space ingame it offers a semi-realistic representation of how much space your extra crap takes up. Should also restore the super high stack limit of valuables as well. (This is an odd idea) But, perhaps valuables have a slight chance of getting crushed/lost in storage container (hey they're big) essentially reducing the effective stack limit, and keeping other forms of storage useful.
Any additional ideas/suggestions are welcome. Criticism is also welcomed, just not nearly as much praise which is super-welcome.
Yes I know it's really freakin' long.
Forgot To add Minecarts. But then I realized they would hold chests. Maybe adding a unique component to the cart will label it as a storage cart restoring previous stack limits for raw materials/ores especially.
"maybe you can't stack 64 of everything." 6:35 July 14. Your thread 11:30. Don't say I stole any ideas (I don't recall any mention of stack limits when searching).
made the above a new post instead of editing it. I don't mind the bumpage but it was accidental.
