Since people are complaining about classic roses being removed..
Not sure if the rosebush icon is the one used in game for the item but it's doubleplant_rose in the version\assets\textures\blocks.
*the shears dont break but lose durability*
simple yes?

Thanks, I am surprised more people have not thought of it really, given the vocal minority that care for the classic rose. I actually like the rose bush better but a single rose in a pot or given out by Iron Golems have charm as well

Speaking of iron golems... Can you still get roses from killing them?

In the snapshot, single roses were totally replaced with poppies. If you look in the jar, there is flower_rose but it is the poppy texture.
not to be confused with doubleplant_rose
No offense to the OP but this idea is just bad. I LOVE the idea of bringing Roses back without removing anything but crafting a Shears (2 Iron) with a Rose Bush two get two Roses? Screw that.
Why not just make so if you break a Rose Bush by hand you get the Bush, and if you use a Shears on it you get 1-4 Roses? That way you have the same end result, have a higher chance of getting more Roses per bush (minimum you get is 1, but the average would be 2.5), and it doesn't waste a ton of Iron (With the OP you get 2 Roses and waste a ton of Shear Durability, when my method allows you to get anywhere from 238 Roses to 4 times that many).

The shears would not disappear but would take a durability hit.
Then you should put that in the OP. Either way though, my idea is simpler to implement (as the base code is already there from things like Leaves, Tall Grass, and Ferns) and makes more sense from a gameplay perspective.
Actually, why not make the Rose Bush plant exactly like a Rose Bush in real life? If you use Shears on it it will drop a single Rose and one of the Roses on the plant disappears. Then over time the Roses will grow back? You could do the same thing with the other Flower Bushes. That would be more aesthetically pleasing in my opinion.

You have a point actually. Ill add that to the OP and to the poll option as well
I'm not sure why, but I think before this update roses were just a little thing that no one paid attention to except as a source of red dye. Now it's gone, there's still a source of red dye, and there are suddenly at least 3 threads in the suggestions forum complaining about roses... I don't get it: what's so great about the old rose sprite?

Problem is, that gives you red dye.Support
Not with the shears.
[quote=Badgerz]You have to keep in mind that people are stupid.
[quote=Catelite]Just because you don't understand how something works, doesn't make it broken or pointless. >_<
I think shearing in game gives the bush itself which is why Its a crafting recipe
