I had seen the new snapshots for the fishing mechanics and I had thought that they could add a few more ideas:
Locked Mossy Chest: It's a type of chest, only obtained from fishing, and it's locked. only way to unlock it, is to find keys, from dungeons, strongholds, mine shafts, zombie drops, etc. Inside, it could have diamonds, iron, emeralds, food, armor, etc. but they are rare to obtain also. Wouldn't want to make things easy now, would we. Just to make fishing more useful. Sometimes, you can fish TNT that activates when reeled in and explodes on you, which can be avoided, if you're quick enough.
Sunken Pirate Ship: Can be found in extremely deep oceans. A chest can be found in the captains quarters. It would mainly contain gold but can also contain food and weapons.
Sounds good, but the TNT sounds a bit ridiculous. Sunken ships would be great too, it would add more depth into the game.
I agree about the TNT, i'm sure it would make for some lulzy moments but it seems a little out of place to be honest.
The chest idea? I like that a lot. It seems we go too far and wide to seek out dungeon chests for nameplates, saddles and other rarities. Some of us never find them in certain seeds...
Though yes, it still needs to be a Helluva rare drop. Like REALLY rare for it to be balanced.
The way I also see it, it means that the developers can make more "Dungeon only" chest items and players with older seeds still have a chance of acquiring items without having to travel long hours to find new lands and new dungeon chests.
One thing I would say though, is that pulling in a chest with a Fishing Rod should have quite an impact to it's durability. Possibly even break it.

Then you have future vision. The only thing Dinnerbone has released on Twitter is that there will be new fish (a pufferfish to make a water breathing potion was specified), "treasure" (yet to be specified), and junk (old boots were listed).
Can't we wait until we know what we're getting off the bat before we start changing it? It may end up that these are unneeded as loot because there's already enough good loot.

[quote=Catelite]Just because you don't understand how something works, doesn't make it broken or pointless. >_<
The TNT thing is just unneeded pointless destruction and overall... kind of goofy. The mossy chest thing is alright, but I'm not so hot on it containing emeralds or diamonds. I don't understand the part about the sunken ships, do you fish in stuff from the sunken ship if it's below the bait you just threw out?

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.
Well, it doesn't have to be a pirate ship, it could any kind of ship. They've added Desert Temples, which is obviously an Egyptian type thing, Jungle Temples, which is obviously a Mayan thing, so why not an oceanic type thing? Like a sunken Roman ship or Pirate ship. I thought of Pirate ship because many tribes and foreign countries, experience piracy.
As for the fishing deal, TNT is too much, so I'll scratch that. And the keys deal, there are always rumors or news reports of ships, losing cargo, due to turbulence or whatnot, but they don't lose the keys, most of the time. So I mentioned Dungeons and Zombies to have the keys because maybe the owners turned to Zombies or left it in a chest somewhere.
The loot should be random though, and be like: 1 ore of some kind, 2 foods of some kind, and 2 uncommon items.
This is where the genius idea came to include TNT as a fishing reward...
Let me give you a scenario.
I like to explore and when it starts to get dark and especially when rains, I will make a platform high up and fish from there until the rain stops.. or it gets light enough to travel.
Thanks to THIS idea, I've lost about 120 levels so far...
How about this.... ?
Give us the ability to knock away the TNT with our fishing rod... because otherwise it's Fall damage... or TNT + Fall Damage which usually means death.
I'm playing on a newer multiplayer server and for the first time I just fished up live TNT. It flew out of the water flashing, landed at my feet, and if I hadn't moved when I did I would have died. I survived to find out I had 2 hearts left. I fish periodically on single player and this has never happened before. The multiplayer server I am currently on runs MCMMO which is what another player on the server says he thinks may be where the chance to fish up live TNT came from.
Other than sharing my experience, I also have a question:
Is the possibility of fishing up live TNT part of vanilla MC or is it a result of one of the mods the multiplayer server I playing on uses?
Either way I enjoyed the excitement of the surprise and didn't find it at all "ridiculous", "unneeded pointless destruction", or "goofy". Even though my house was damaged by the blast this game has endless resources and it just made the game more challenging and fun. That's of course the point of this game. Am I right?
I like the idea of sunken treasure, but instead of a ship, I think it should be something less-human. Excluding the mineshaft, none of the other dungeons pertain to humans necessarily.

well, we wouldn't want things to be too easy, you know. Maybe it does sound a little farfetch'd
The TNT ... not so much.
