Indeed. I'm afraid the Internet is a free country(if it even is a country) and everyone is free to do what they want to do as long as they do not break the law, which in this case, they aren't. Swearing is allowed.
Freedom isn't a bad thing.
No support. Censorship should be discouraged, not encouraged. Imagine what it'd be like if you taught those kids that "inappropriate" language can't really hurt them, and that there's better, easier, and more respectable ways of getting your points across, instead of remaining in the Stone Age and believing that certain words have the power to harm us psychologically when we so much as hear them?
I want to support this... but no child is going to avoid cursing their whole life. Might as well get it over with at home than at school.
Mojang could say, however, that there is an options for "censored multiplayer," which may be a turn-on for overprotective players to let their kids buy minecraft. Plus, if a kid was pirating an account because he can't go on multiplayer anyways, this might be an initiative for that kid to buy the game, making mojang more $$$$$$$$$$$$

Pyriting? Pirating?
And corporate greed is hardly a good excuse to add a restrictive feature that might drive away older and more mature customers.

Just a phantom overlord who says that this is it, I said yeah

I made a typo and decided not to change it because I thought nobody would notice. The irony. And how is this at all restrictive, if it's a client side completely optional filter? And isn't corporate greed the real reason any company makes a video game?

Yep. I really am like the only person who supported this idea completely.
Another issue with this idea, would it only censor English swear words? But then what about the people who play on non-English servers? So Mojang would either have to censor all of the swear words of every language they offer or they would discriminate against people who don't play in one of the languages they choose to censor.
Does anybody care to try and refute my point here?

I think language packs are provided by volunteers. Remember when a particularly offensive derogatory term for a person of a particular skin colour appeared in the splash text on one of the snapshots?
I think with the censor we'd have even more of those incidents, simply because the content at hand encourages such behaviour as people would get an even bigger reaction out of it.

How is this thread still going on,this thread should have gone dead by now but why is this still going on?
If you don't like a thread you can't call it dead! A lot of people support this, and none of you really listed a good reason not to! If you don't like that, that is fine with me. But just don't go "ermygahd this threed is 5TuPiddddd!! This sh0uld be deaaad!"
And to anyone saying "should be server choice" or "people will find ways around it" can you not say the same for any other suggestion? If someone wants to suggest lets say, a new mob, will one simply say " should be server choice" or who's to say people won't use mods to remove it etc. This suggestion wouldn't affect anyone but those who are using it, and is probably one of the better suggestions out there. Kinda surprised there isn't a filter in the client already. There may be mods for it, but some people just don't know / don't understand mods, and fair enough. It may be hard but another thing would be to add a client-side censor to things such as signs/renamed items, however, this would be quite tedious and hard to implement, but nonetheless, should be considered.
You put the wrong part of your response in the spoiler. This is a discussion forum, the discussion part is important.
Again, a mojang representative announced that there are no plans to work on a chat filter; and all it takes is (at most) a full stack of 1 material to build words in an effective effigy; this is where a bit of forward thinking from concerned guardians goes a long way.

People won't know whether or not you have the chat filter on or not, and most people aren't evil enough to swear to a child whe puts on a chat filter for the intent of not being exposed to them.

Minecraft has a better community than the entire internet. Plus, this isn't just for kids. Minecraft youtubers like Etho would use this, as he tries to keep his videos clean.
plug-ins are here for a reason and for 1 i think its good that the mature players scare off the kids sometimes because servers can go down in bad mouth wars. but if young players really play on a server like sky does minecrafts server then i would be fine with it
Mature content other than that which is scary doesn't scare young players away.
Just as it wasn't finding out what the Dragon Megathread really was some years ago on Facepunch wasn't what made me leave those forums, just the wannabe troll community.
Well I haven't cursed. So you can say goodbye to any hope of this.
First, I doubt that, but also has your life ended yet? No. Secondly, I meant no one avoid people cursing, not that no one can avoid cursing themselves.Still though, chances are no one can avoid cursing themselves sometime or another.
