hmm... I'm just not seein' it. Could you give me a few examples of how a map creator would use arrows breaking glass and how I would use that in single player?
I support. And saying that this would cause greifing is not a reasonable argument. So can flint n steel, TnT, creepers, endermen, ghasts, and lava. And there are no commands for stopping those things. Well, there are, but then it isn't vanilla anymore... Plus he offered the idea of a command.

There could be a map that is co-op, where players are on two different sides. They are all standing on glass panes, and have to shoot the other players' glass panes out from under them... I know, spleef...

In a single-player map, you could use this in the same method, except that the glass panes are all next to each other, and you try to prevent mobs from getting you. Remember, these are only concepts that I thought of in a minute, not the greatest game ever.

Except for the fact that it kind of is.

In a strange way, you sort of stomped out your own argument here. You're stating things that can used to grief, so this glass pane idea would be yet another method of griefing. By the way, Creepers, Endermen and Ghasts don't count as griefing because... they're actually part of the game.

Yes, griefing can be an issue with this; that's why you should use glass blocks instead. Right now, glass panes are cheaper to make, and kind of look nicer than blocks as well. So, don't you think there should be a catch when using panes? It is logical: they're thinner and cheaper.

Sorry, but statements like this are just horrible. I say that because someone shouldn't have to substitute something just so they don't get griefed easier. Solution, don't have it in the game to start with. Even if it's a command or not. Where's the objective value in this?

Wow. So because glass panes are cheaper, it's written in stone that there MUST be a weakness to them? By that logic, bricks should have more blast resistance than cobblestone because cobblestone is much easier to get.

Well, I understand what you're saying, and yes, you are indeed, correct. However, it would be the player's own risk if they wanted to take the chance of using glass panes; it wouldn't be mandatory to use glass blocks, just a little safer, just like cobblestone is a better material than wood. (I learned this the hard way when my MCPE house burned down...) A gamerule allowing whether this can be on/off can be used on faction servers that don't want this as an option.
Whats the big deal about the possible griefing? The griefer fires a arrow. A relatively cheap, replaceable glass plane broke. Griefer lost a arrow. You lost a glass pane. At least it isn't as destructive as say, TNT, or fire/lava. Personally, I'd save my arrows for better use, like against mobs, or in PvP, other players. A griefer would probably do more harm shooting the arrow at you instead of a cheap glass pane.

You're not thinking hard enough if the best argument you have against a suggestion is to cry grief.
Leave the possibility of griefing out of it and try again.
I still can't think of a good reason to implement this idea (pvp isn't good enough for me), but griefing should never be the reason to reject any idea.
I agree with him 100%!
Glass panes only, and toggleable with a command.

As for single player?

Glass not shattering when hit with an arrow kind of bugs me.
