So, I was thinking, Sneaking (left shift normally) could be used for more. I think it would be cool if you could shift, and walk under certain areas a block and a half tall (block and a top half slab above).
Also, I think it would be pretty cool to do front rolls like in zelda, or slides like in MegaMan. No, not to move faster, but to go in other, smaller, areas.
Not bad for a first post, actually.
Although if it's to go into smaller areas, wouldn't you rather go prone instead? Getting stuck in a tight spot in the middle of a roll sounds painful.
Movement in general in this game could use a good re-work.
All we got is Walking, running, and jumping. For guys that can mining thousands of blocks, fend of zombies and skeletons, and not get tired, we're pretty...un-acrobatic.
I think going prone would be the most practical and best for vanilla - you can already lie in a bed, no reason why you couldn't perform a similar action on the ground.
I don't think we need to change vanilla minecraft movements, it's fine the way it is. Plus there are mods out there where you get special movements already. If you rly want them just download the mods for it.

That's like saying Mojang shouldn't add updates anymore because there are plugins for everything. :/

I'd love to see the animation for Prone.. It would make me laugh.

Life is very hard when you don't have any knees or elbows.
Let's not take minecraft into the Mirrors Edge territory when it comes to mobility...
First of all, Mirror's Edge didn't invent the ability to crouch and/or crawl. Second, what exactly is wrong with allowing players to move smoothly and acrobatically?

Giving players the ability to climb under places where we can't already makes map making that much harder. There's no way for us to change how redstone wiring works to accommodate these changes.

You're going to need to go into detail on that. From my understanding the ability to crawl or move in smaller spaces would make map making much more versatile with secret areas and such, and most Redstone can be blocked off entirely where you need to break blocks to get to the wiring.

How does making players more nimble, allowing for more complicated parkour maps and any other maps that incorporate agile movement, interfere with mapmaking in any way?
Back in 1.3 I made an adventure map for the smartmoving mod that involved use of the enhanced mobility at the players disposal to make complicated puzzles in which the player would have to rapidly move around dodging through obstacles. I'm not exactly sure what ever happened to it, though. (I might re-upload it if I can find it somewhere on my computer)
You know there's a rule against this sort of thing, right?
How much else should we have besides prone? I'd like an improved sneak that actually lowers your hitbox.

Give me your opinions! I would love to hear them!

It depends on what's added.
