Lol, it's just gravel. It won't be very harmful, you can dig or jump out of it, it just makes caving more exciting. And I believe the developers should decide what radius the earthquake is because they're experts on balancing stuff I'm sure they'll think of something acceptable. And also, who doesn't like a bit of interest when they're caving?
But this would not be interest. This would simply be annoying. I mean, who would actually enjoy a random event that makes gravel attack them in caves and griefs their house?
Also, this:
And I believe the developers should decide what radius the earthquake is because they're experts on balancing stuff
The old "the developers will think of something!" argument. You should explain this in your suggestion, not just assume that Mojang will invent something for you if it gets implemented. And you still haven't answered my question about where the earthquake would be centred.
I do not support this. It would not be fun. Sure it will be fun for you at first but let's say you built this giant castle with amazing mountains and beautiful scenery. Then suddenly... Bam earthquake. And all of it gets ruined.
And I believe the developers should decide what radius the earthquake is because they're experts on balancing stuff I'm sure they'll think of something acceptable.
ye ill build my giant cobble castle, just to find out that 50% became useless gravel because of the earthquake.
cobble is one of the most used build block, making it dengerus to use is stupid.
How about instead of this, they just add a system that makes the cave... cave in occasionally...?
When you mine a block, there would be a small chance (ie, 0.01%) that a large area of surrounding stone will turn into "falling stone", falling like gravel until landing on a solid block, at which point it randomly becomes stone, gravel, or cobble.
They could even add a warning system where one or two blocks fall first, then a few seconds later, a whole bunch of blocks start falling. This would give the player plenty of opportunity to escape, provided he/she was actually paying attention and knew what was going on.
To protect player structures, this could easily be made to apply only to blocks created by the world generator.
Hey, what about making it very rare, and have an option for it!?

That would be a stupid option, regarding to turn JUST one thing off, though bonus chests do it that doesn't mean it should turn off a natural disaster.
In one of my worlds in the desert my house is under a cave, and well if you make this option my house will be somehow kind of floating. And if I'm outside, I wouldn't want to go down that ravine. No Support.
I can see this idea being very annoying. Imagine you had just built a big stone/cobblestone castle and all of sudden it is turned into gravel and it all falls to nothing. Not to mention that this is very redundant. What would the benefit to this be. Even if this were to be implemented they would have to make it EXTREMELY rare, even then it would still be OP when it did occur. No support.
It would be easily breakable. Wood is flammable, making it an uncommon choice for building with. Also, Dirt is easily explodable [?], so the choice for a house is usually cobblestone. And then your suggestion makes cobblestone useless, meaning you'd have to use ANOTHER material. (What, obsidian?) So;

Well tough, it's called life. But, on a more serious note, earthquakes would make it a lot more interesting. And, also, for those of you who don't know; earthquakes happen at different levels and have a certain point from which they originate. I think earthquakes should happen more commonly at deeper levels and around Extreme Hills biome.

Gee wiz, I'd sure love to be randomly crushed while caving and have to repair half my house because of a stupid weather event.
Also, a specified radius? Radius from what? Is the earthquake meant to be centred somewhere?

An alternate timeline emerges.
However, we must first start from the beginning...
Oh and...
In what sense would randomly getting buried while going home from your mining trip with stacks of diamonds make caving more exciting?
No. You decide. They won't do it for you. Ever.
Of course everyone does. But your idea will only make caving worse.

Alright then, I'll take this suggestion as a troll.
Mods, you're gonna give me an infraction right? Well he said it right on spot to not take this suggestion seriously.
