I'm very sorry many people are being rude with their opinions. I, for one support a new netherrack texture, but the one you offer isn't what I would like. I think the color scheme is great, but it does look a little too grid-like (for lack of a better word). Maybe if you could make a more smooth texture, more readers would agree.
You edited your post right when I quoted it. Not the first time.
But anyways, I don’t like the dark texture of netherrack unless the lava texture was changed. Currently, lava looks like “oh, of COURSE there’s a crack in the ceiling and of course there’s lava on top! My Nether railroad is doomed” as opposed to the “oh, looks like someone put some lava here, they hate my Nether railroad apparently” in the new texture pic.

Eh, to me, Netherrack looks like a dim red with hints of coral in there. Regardless, it looks fine as is and it blends in perfectly. I don't really like the texture you presented, it kinda looks red and black ice in the picture Spaceboot1 gave.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
The framerate doesn’t change if the colors are different. The game still has to render every single pixel on the block.
Source: It was a forum post about a texture pack to “reduce lag” long ago and someone said it doesn’t work because the game still needs to render every single pixel. You’re welcome to use the forum’s search function to find it.

You are wrong, the framerate does change based on image file size, I edited my post for clarity.

That’s only loading for rendering. And loading images is instantaneous, the reason it lags a bit when you open it is because the image viewer/editor has to start up. It still has to render every single pixel on the texture.

I wouldn't mind just changing the color/brightness on the current one to make it more red, but I don't think the texture you've suggested would be the best option. The Nether is full of netherrack, and that texture has too obvious of edges. Spaceboot1's screenshot shows how it actually looks when applied to the Nether.

No. The new one looks nice. It DOES look a bit pink at higher light levels.... BUT the Nether by default ISN'T bright. Anyway it should just be a bit redder. Not a completely new texture.
Now I know my design is grid like, it's just to give you the idea.
Well I see the idea you're presenting, and it's pretty bad. If you're going to convince other people to side with you, you have to do more than say "The texture is crap, here's one I made in three minutes that looks better."
The texture suits the purpose, and that's that. No need to waste the extra time modifying older textures instead of focusing on better features.

Still, the point is that it wouldn't be a bad idea to make a better image for netherrack.

Too grid-like (as someone said already)
Kind of makes it feel like some virtual world room to me...before all the stuff gets loaded.
I like the way netherack looks now, it looks good side-by-side with lava and soul sand, and doesn't hurt my eyes to look at.

They try to keep the game itself as easy to play without the need for mods like Opti-fine, mcpatcher or any other in regards to color range and light.
Then at the same time we're given the option to change what we don't like with texture/resource packs.
Though even still, such changes usually require those mods, for the textures to be supported properly and be able to be used.
Long story short,
Mojang isn't going to make images heavier and more unstable, just because you don't like them.

Replace hellrock.png with a "Transparent" image....
Then tell me what your Frame Rate is..

Also, your texture looks way too grid-like for a block type that makes up almost all of the Nether :/
Also, your own texture looks worse than the default, it has no shape and tiles horribly.
No support.
