Netherrack in the default texture looks awful. The pink color of it doesn't represent the dark feeling of the nether, even in dim lighting (lighting is boosted in the nether anyways) . In my opinion, netherrack should be a darker red, with no pink. Here is a rough example of what I think it should look like:

Let me give you the reason why just a texture pack won't work:
If I were to build a house out of netherrack on say, an SMP server, I would probably get banned.
I do youtube videos, and people should be able to recognize it as the better texture.
It currently, looks pink, especially when brightness is set to bright (If it's on dark you can't see anything!) And I think mojang should change this to make the game better.
Fireplaces require you to cover up the netherrack.
It makes up an entire dimension, some more time should have went into the texture.
I already have.
Why shouldn't everybody have it? If you don't like it you can change it back!

well, textures dont just change willy nilly on default pack but the only reaso why coal and charcoal was changed was because it was to hard to tell the two apart.

lapis lazuli blocks, cobblestone, bricks, grass, lava. All changed at one point.
I wouldn't mind a darker texture, but not the one in the OP. I don't feel a need to change it though.

I definitely am not a fan of the first picture. A nice thing about every Minecraft texture is that they all blend with one another, without causing too much of an eyesore. However, if something like that first picture were added, then in a realm where the same block is EVERYWHERE, it is going to look really bad, because you're always going to perceive those two odd dark red spots in the same exact place.
The default netherrack blends well with all the rest of the netherrack blocks, because none of the textures inside are overly huge and eye-catching.
If you don't get what I mean, build a long wall of cobblestone, and just look down the side of the wall. You're going to see a big chunk of stone in the texture, repeated over and over.
It looks nice enough, but it's no netherrack. Maybe if the edges were subtler. Less contrast.
I believe the original texture for netherrack was devised by taking cobblestone and applying some noise and some red colouring. Netherrack is supposed to be a crumbly cobbly block. Still, I'll take shaggy and droopy.

Curse PremiumI'm just a Minecraft player that likes to give my opinion. Nothing special to see here.

Of course, it would be smothened, that's a rough outline, and I made it in 3 minutes.
It's pink, sorry. Basically you're saying that white wool is "grey at darker levels. It only appears white."

Just calm down and change it yourself with an image editor.

I honestly think the original texture looks good and is better.
