A Dust Bunny is technically a mob, but a special one at that. Dust Bunnies only spawns when you haven't slept in your bed for say, 3 minecraft days. Then when you get into your bed after that time period, 1-3 Dust Bunnies would race out from under your bed. They take a appearance of an actual bunny, but made of dust. When they come out, you can either: 1. Continue sleeping, or 2. Wake up and chase after them. Dust Bunnies are relatively fast, about as fast as the player sprinting. They cannot open doors, you can use this to your advantage if your bedroom requires a door to enter.
After about 2 minutes of running, the Dust Bunnies would crumble apart on their own, and would NOT drop anything. They also would crumble and not drop anything upon contact of water or rain/snow. If you manage to catch up to them, they require one hit to break, and would drop 0-2 of a item called "dust". Dust can be used as a dye to create a, well, dust colored wool or carpet, which appears as a darkish grey color with black flecks in it. It can be combined with other dyes to create more colors, like if you combine dust with lapis lazuli, it would create a dye called "blue dust". It would be a dark blue color with black flecks in it when applied, this trait is shared with other dyes; darker version of the normal color with black flecks.
Questions and Answers:
Q: It a useless feature.
A: Dyes are useless for survival, but in creative this opens more color options for a creation.
Q: Can you breed Dust Bunnies?
A: No, they are made of dust.
Q: This would get annoying fast, like bats.
A: Maybe, but you can just ignore them and continue sleeping. and they would crumble when you wake up.
Q: This would cause a infestation of these things.
A: They crumble apart on their own after 2 minutes or when you wake up.
Q: What about Multiplayer?
A: If a bed is not slept in for 3 days, that bed would have Dust Bunnies.

This is a cute idea. Support, though I think the time it takes to chase the bunnies should be cut by half.
To 2.5 minutes?

Maybe less. I mean, picture this poor newbie who chases after the bunnies, and when he catches up with them, he has a pile of dust and he's several hundred blocks away from home.

True, changed it to 2.5 minutes, or do you want it to be 2 minutes instead or less?

It's really up to you, I'm just here to offer suggestions.
Then make some, your ideas are good.

guess ill be the first to say i dont support this. while its a fun idea to imagine, in practice it would just be annoying. lets say you want to farm some dust to make a whole bunch of dust colored wool. how would you go about that? do you craft 50 beds? how do you know when dust bunnies are present in each bed? what if you accidentally sleep too early and you ruin all that wait time? if you really want a new color, im sure theres more practical methods of implementing them.

sum-up; fun idea, bad in practice.
I thought about being able to breed them when I first posted the topic, by doing a procedure to make them not crumble, but scrapped the idea as I thought it would be taken poorly as people would say that they are made of dust and shouldn't be bred, and should remain special to beds.

Well, first thing is, when i saw this, i think you got this suggestion from Spiral Knights. So im not sure.
Who? Haven't heard of him. Give link to thread, make sure its just like this one, and check if it is outdated or not.

Should there be a visual thing if a bed has Dust Bunnies? Like clumps of dust under the bed? Or not have a visual and keep it to surprise the player or something.

I think implementing a new dye is great. Especially because it's not a new "color" but black dots on the dye.
However the idea of chasin dust bunnies under your bed isn't very good in my opinion and as someone else stated bad in practice. I would like bunnies to become an actual mob instead like cows and pigs, but they drop "dust". But it should probably be called something else.
I was trying to give beds an another feature. In real life, "dust bunnies" are dust that forms under your bed or other furniture when dust clumps together in large amounts. I thought it would be fun to add that and make the dust bunnies technically alive.

If that single bed has not been slept in by any player for 3 days, that bed will have dust bunnies. No problem.
Oh and also, I support this idea. It's a fun little tweak that, I agree, should be implemented.
