If you like the look of larger terrain generation, you should check out some of the pictures on the Cubic Chunks thread. It's a suggestion for the chunk system that optimizes the chunk system, and makes larger terrain generation like this possible without hitting the height limit because it (as a side effect,) makes the world height/depth infinite.

It appears that in the 1.8 snapshots, you can customize your world generation to achieve terrains somewhat like this, which is a relief. I'm still playing with some of the options but yeah you can pretty much stretch out or compress terrain any which way you like, including horizontally.

Support! This is an awesome idea, especially with the optional large world gen. Another pro: easier to find areas for building a house/village because of flatland.
One problem with this is that many people want not just a bigger variant of what we already have but more variation, which means both what we already have and larger/smaller variants in the same world; for example, one forest has giant mountains, the next is flat as a pancake, the third rolling hills, and so on; some rivers are just little creeks while others are Amazons, etc. See this thread for what I mean (the same applies to caves and ravines for me; I don't just want bigger caves and ravines but more variation; sure, you can find some crazy huge caves and ravines in my mod but most of them are much smaller, averaging near vanilla size).
I love the look of the water ways in this, but I like how extreme hills looks in the current generator, I could maybe see them with 2x amplification, but only if the noise is cranked way up...
As for the ravines, I think a mixture between the default, yours, and everything in between would be nice.
Love the idea 100% support. I think it should be in large biomes it will fit perfectly and for defalt worlds have size variations large small more world like. Love idea support
I am a friend of all Snow Golem kind.
I especially liked the rivers and the forest (all the trees look really cool) next to the mountain.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Not sure about the bigger rivers/ravines/hills though.
