In a world full of blocks, evil, & low resolution graphics, one thing is almost universally known: Golden Tools & Armor are almost worthless. Admit it, you would never use Gold Armor if even Leather was available. They have worse durability than Wood & Leather, the ore is very rare, it does the same damage as a wooden tool, & the armor barely offers any protection at all. However, most people overlook all of this because Golden items have the highest enchantability & can therefore be fairly valuable. Well, this would give more of a reason to use golden tier items. Plus, it would give the decorative ores that have no use in survival a purpose.
Basically, the premise of the suggestion is this: You can imbue Golden Armor with different abilities (which will be mentioned later) using stones (which I will also explain later) made from decorative ores. These ores are Redstone, Lapis, Emerald, & Nether Quartz. You would obtain these stones from putting the respective ore in a Crafting table to turn it into a chunk (Implying that you crushed it to a degree), then putting said chunk into a furnace to turn the Chunk into a new stone ready for imbuing! Here are the stats of each stone & what it does to a specific catagory (Sword, Tool, and armor)
Redstone
Armor Effect: Reduces the amount of damage taken from undead mobs
Sword Effect: Increases the damage from 4 to 5
Tool Effect: Raises the Minability two tiers (allows tools to mine Redstone, Coal, Iron, Gold, & Quartz)
Lapis
Armor effect: Decreases loading time on a bow
Sword effect: Increases the critical hit (the hit gets upped by 1)
Tool effect: Two items drop instead of one (For example: If you mine one block of stone, you get two cobblestone back)
Emerald universally increases the durability by 200
Quartz
Armor Effect: Reduces damage taken from Ender Pearling by 1 heart
Sword Effect: Increases the chance of Rare drops dropping
Tool Effect: Increases Mining speed (Basically making Gold tools super speedy tools)
Does this sound too good to be true? It should, because it is. It would be too overpowering to keep the enchantability alongside all of these opportunities in a single tier set. The better the ability of a stone, it reduces the enchantability a specific degree. If a tool has Lapis, the enchantability is reduced by a fourth due to providing two drops. If armor has Redstone, It reduces the enchantability by a fifth. Anything with Emerald has the enchantability cut by a third. Finally, a sword with Quartz looses a fourth of the enchantability.
I have made images for each chunk & stone, but since these forums have the worst image uploading options on the internet, I can't upload them. However, they were pretty bad. All of the images were using dyes sprites. Quartz used Light Grey as a chunk & normal grey for a stone.
I know this is getting pretty long-winded, but if you have an idea for a different ability for a specific stone, PM me & then I'll add a poll to the Topic asking if people like it. If people don't, then It won't get added. If people do like it, then i will take it into consideration how game breaking it would be. However, Emerald & the Redstone tool effect will not be changed, so don't try messaging me on the subject.
Redstone
Armor Effect: Reduces the amount of damage taken from undead mobs What does redstone have to do with undead protection?
Sword Effect: Increases the damage from 4 to 5 How does redstone increase strength/sharpness/whatever that makes it more deadly? And can't you just use other tiers?
Tool Effect: Raises the Minability two tiers (allows tools to mine Redstone, Coal, Iron, Gold, & Quartz) Or you can use the higher tiers...
Lapis
Armor effect: Decreases loading time on a bow How does lapis help decrease loading time on bow?
Sword effect: Increases the critical hit (the hit gets upped by 1) How does lapis do this?
Tool effect: Two items drop instead of one (For example: If you mine one block of stone, you get two cobblestone back) Then the cobblestone is smelted into two stones. Repeat process. I just wonder how lapis does this.
Emerald universally increases the durability by 200 Sure, emerald is hard, right?
Quartz
Armor Effect: Reduces damage taken from Ender Pearling by 1 heart How does quartz do this? And by the way, feather falling.
Sword Effect: Increases the chance of Rare drops dropping Looting man, looting.
Tool Effect: Increases Mining speed (Basically making Gold tools super speedy tools) How does quartz do this? And efficiency enchantment BTW.
Look okay, I admire your concept. Very interesting. But I really do not see sense in it.
Someone says: Minecraft does not have to make sense!!!!!
Sure, let's allow the player to eat a block of wool and be able to fly and bounce on the clouds while leaving a trail of rainbow...
Gold things are very enchantable though meaning they could serve a niche purpose like having a golden helmet that is aqua affinity with respiration III. It would be a cheap helmet for casual wear when not fighting monsters.
I think you have contributed a lot to your idea but I don't support it
Yeah, honestly, I think gold is nice already. The tools are the fastest, it's extremely enchantable, and with the armor you look completely decked out.

It's called magic. Imbuing a certain stone with power doesn't have to correspond to what the said stoen does unimbued! I support, fully, but a want it to have a different look (maybe have the jewels on a sword where the handle and hand guard meet?, or he chest piece having it dead center on the chest? legs have it as a groin guard of sorts, and the boots are tipped with the stone, and a helmet having it on the forehead) I would also like the imbued objects to glow like an enchantment, but the color of the stone.
Seems like a good idea. It also could come in hand with making multiplayer PVP games, such as archers or teleporting ninjas.
