Okay, an idea for survival mode popped into my head randomly all of a sudden. Here it is:
Maybe you could make specialized mobs for each biome. What I mean by this is basically, for each environment (desert, ocean, taiga, forest, jungle, plains, etc.), there could be special kinds of mobs, both passive and hostile ones.
Maybe even, perhaps, making a sort of a "biome boss" for each one, a huge monster for each biome that spawns in any light level but appears very rarely, being very hard to defeat once it does though. You'd either be able to fight them and collect awesome drops or run to a different biome (they'd be able to cross but would weaken).
I'm not sure whether this is a common topic or not. Nevertheless, here are some examples of these biome-set mobs:
Desert- rattlesnakes, mummies, etc. For passive, maybe a... hmmm... lizard? I don't know. The boss would be a giant scorpion (not GIANT giant, just big) who could shoot venom through its fangs, and who could "strike" by lashing you with their fangs and/or tail.
Ocean- More kinds of fish (passive), maybe a shark which would be neutral, jellyfish as neutral ones too, which both would attack when provoked. The boss could be an octopus who would grab you with their suction cups and drown you really quickly.
Taiga- Not much for this one, really... (By Taiga I guess I mean snowy areas with trees) Hmm... maybe an eagle (passive or neutral, either one I guess), and moose (passive). The boss could be... hmmm... I actually am quite stumped here. Any ideas for taiga bosses?
Forest (I'm really running out of ideas here XD)- Maybe raccoons, skunks (good one) which would both be passive (skunk could be neutral actually, but either way) and the boss could be... err.... a black bear, maybe, who would do a huge amount of damage by swiping at you with its paw.
Jungle- Parrots (passive), Monkeys (either passive or neutral, in which case they would throw, IDK coconuts at you when provoked), and the boss could be a tiger or leopard, who would try and eat you, I suppose. This would be in addition to the already existing jungle mob, ocelots.
Plains- Prairie dogs...? Eh, no. What I was actually thinking was that you could include a mob that digs through the ground, and rather than attacking you, steals stuff from any open treasure chests. If a door is open, they will steal from them. Maybe... moles. Yes, moles. They could be able to detect treasure chests from twenty/thirty blocks away, can dig through stone and dirt and gnaw through wood, and can open chests unless locked (which can be manufactured from iron). They will also attempt to steal any item on you, which can be a huge danger if you're mining. The boss could be... actually, I don't think there should be a boss for plains, lol. I can't think of any. If YOU can though, that would be great.
Here are the drops each mob would give:
Rattlesnakes- snake skin used to make rope or clothing, 1-3 of this and 1-2 rattles used to, ummm... I have no idea, something I guess.
Mummies- Bandages used to... heal wounds? I don't know. 1-3 of bandages and 1-3 rotting flesh.
Sharks- Shark fins to make shark fin soup and 1-3 shark teeth to craft into spears.
Jellyfish- Hmm... 1-3 drops of... I have no idea. Anyone have suggestions for this?
Eagle- 2 eagle eyes used to see in the dark better, maybe, and... uh... nothing else.
Moose- Moose skin used to craft into rugs, and antlers used for... err.... something. Again, ideas?
Raccoons- Raccoon fur used to craft into rugs, like moose (1-3)
Skunks- 1-2 medicine bottles (for scorpion venom, cave spider venom, etc.)
Parrots- 1-3 colorful feathers used for decoration, and... nothing else I guess.
Monkeys- Monkey gloves to let you climb...?
Moles- all of the stuff that they stole from you (if you catch them on time). Or, if they didn't steal anything... hmm. I have no idea.
AND the bosses:
Scorpion- 1-3 drops of extremely lethal weapons to put on the tips of arrows and spears. ALSO: Scorpion claws...?
Octopus- I have no idea. Someone have an idea?
(No Taiga boss yet)
Black bear- Bear claws, which can be used to... hmmm.... craft weapons, I guess. ALSO: Bear skin, which along with dye can be crafted into an ultra-rare rug.
Tiger/leopard- I guess the skin, and... I don't know what else. Ideas will be greatly appreciated.
(No Prairie boss yet (If there will be one, that is))
Of course, for these bosses to be implemented into the game somehow, the biomes themselves would have to be expanded by a LOT. Kind of like real biomes.
So, yeah. I guess that's pretty much it.
It's just an idea I pulled out of my head. There might be lots of flaws with it. If there are, please point them out!
Also, suggest more stuff! And tell me if you liked the idea.
I thought it would add more... hmmm.... LIFE to Minecraft.
What are your thoughts?
Though I do like the idea... this isn't Mo' Creatures! These have been suggested before. I also don't like the idea of a boss being able to just spawn when you aren't ready. Sorry, but no support.
More mobs would be cool, though it's been discussed a lot. This 'mob bosses' idea sounds interesting too, but it would add an unnecessary challenge. Would like it in a mod though. 1/2 support.

That's a very nice sssssignature you have... it would be a shame if it was turned into a meme...
Wouldn't it be cool if... your title was a bit more descripive.

Yes. Yes I do.
I like the idea of adding more mobs specific to each biome, but the biome boss I don't like. I think bosses shouldn't be common at all or anything like that. I think they should be hard to get to like the enderdragon or hard to make like the wither. I do support the specific biome mobs though.

How about the mob bosses each have their own little fort or something that you have to get into to fight? That way you have something big to look for and they wont just be spawning randomly.
I think it'd add some much needed content Minecraft is looking for. Each boss could have their own specific drops, maybe special weapons and armor.
Not a bad idea. Needs some work, and change the title, please, it kind of sounds like spam and doesn't represent the topic well enough. (Not a rule just a suggestion)

Again, apologies. I guess I wasn't really thinking.

Cool! I didn't put much thought into it, though. If someone has any suggestions to improve it, I'd be really happy to read some!

What are your thoughts?
