With the ocean as the biggest, but most boring biome, I think Mojang should try to make the ocean more exciting. In this thread, there will be new Mobs, Structures, and Items, that I think will make the ocean much more fun and exciting to explore.
Mobs
The ocean need more mobs. The only mob found on the ocean are Squids. Both hostile, and docile mobs make the ocean more fun.
Dolphins
Dolphins would hopefully look like the ones found in DrZhark's Mo' Creatures mod. Dophins would be tamable, and would act like horses, but on the sea. You can descend water faster, instead of waiting for your body to sink down. Dolphins will be docile. To tame a dolphin, feed it fish. A dolphin would have the same equip GUI as a horse.
Hydra
Hydras have 9 heads, and will be a new boss. They live in water, and can be summoned from an ancient ruin(See below at Underwater Structures) found under water. Since both bosses are airborne, and live in the End and Nether, why not have one in the water, in the regular world? The hydra has low health, but is hard to battle considering you're in the water.
How to kill the Hydra:
1. Each hydra head will lunge at you, attacking you or/and your dolphin, but also giving you a chance to cut a head off. Once all 9 heads are cut off, the Hydra is defeated.
In all the myths and legends if you cut off 1 head 2 more take its place. You should have to try to hit its body, limbs or tail, and hitting it in the head/neck will heal it/grow another head.
Sharks
Here's a hostile mob. Sharks will attack you, but are a bit rarer than squids. Sharks wouldn't crash your boat, but will try to damage your dolphin. Dolphins can swim a bit faster than sharks. Sharks won't attack a dolphin as long as it's tamed.
Zombies to you = Sharks to dolphins
Fish
Fish should be improved a bit. Fish should be of different sizes, shapes, and colors, each type feeding your hunger at a different level. Fishing will also have a rare chance of picking up a piranha. Piranhas act like silverfish. When are submerged in the water, you should have a chance of seeing fish underwater. Fish act like mobs, and you can kill them to obtain their item. Watch out for piranhas, they are hostile. The only way to obtain fish is through fishing, or killing them in water.
Structures
For a very long time, I've been waiting for something in the ocean to update. Sailing the ocean nowadays is boring, with it so flat, nothing to do when you're searching for a new island or place to live on. The undersea terrain, and the flat open sea are just boring. With the sea as the biggest, and (worst), biome at the moment, I feel there should be something new added to it.
Some abandoned structures on the ocean would greatly improve the excitement of sailing the sea. So far, only one mob can be found in the ocean: Squids. Think about it. In the real world, what dangers or goods can be found in or under the ocean? The ocean could definitely need some improvement. I'm sure lot's of you agree too!
Above the sea
Tides
Having tides that vary from day to night, would add excitement, and make the game more challenging on the ocean. The ocean doesn't have any challenges, which includes hostile mobs. Tides would just be the water sinking down a bit, then coming back up. That would make sailing more realistic. Tides would have a slight chance of breaking your boat.
Below the sea
A wrecked ship
Wrecked ships can be found in the bottom of the ocean, or stranded leaning against an island. Wrecked ships would contain similar loot to such found in a spawner dungeon. A wrecked ship would be commonly found beneath the ocean. You can find compasses, maps, food, enchanted books, ores, potions, tools, or armour in a wrecked ship.
Ancient ruins or temples
Ancient ruins and temple are like desert temples, and contain traps in them. An ancient ruin contains treasure, and contain similar loot to a desert temple. Each ruin contains a scroll, and an altar. Once you have 3 scrolls, put them in an altar to summon the Hydra.
Coral reefs
Coral reefs don't add much of a purpose other than decoration. You find most fish hiding in corals, and breaking a coral, will release all the fish. You see all kinds of under water animals in the coral reefs, even squids, sharks, and dolphins.
Items
Adding items to help with water would be nice. Items help travel the sea faster, better, and help the survival of you, and your dolphin.
Dolphin armor
Similar to horse armor, dolphin armor helps keep your dolphin safe. Can be equipped via the Dolphin GUI
Scuba gear
Scuba helmets and scuba gear will both increase your bubbles. Scuba helmets can be equipped on the helmet slot, and scuba gear can be equipped on the chestplate spot.
That's all for now, thanks for taking your time to read my suggestions!
I like the idea, but I think armor should slow down your dolphin, depending on what type it is. Also, I think you should have to NOT cut off the heads, because in all the myths and legends if you cut off 1 head 2 more take its place. You should have to try to hit its body, limbs or tail, and hitting it in the head/neck will heal it/grow another head.
I like the idea! I think that there should be a "shark spawner" kind of thing inside wrecked ships and/or underwater temples, just to make things more interesting.
I have a good idea, Add something called Atlantis Villages, at the sea floor, like a village, but with fish people, Also, make it when you kill a hydra you get their head (like a wither and his star) when you wear it you cant drown, also, make it so water can make waves and you can make surfboards by using 3 slabs in a row

Well horse armour doesn't slow down horses, but I think the heads are a decent idea.

I love the village idea, but the hydra head is a bit overpowered. Waves I agree, but not surfboards

You have a point if you ever played The Twilight Forest mod (not the awful movies) the hydra grows two more heads each time you cut one off.
Overall, i support. But i think sharks shouldn't spawn on peaceful mode. And will the dolphins have to resurface for air? They are mammals, and they do resurface for oxygen IRL. Obviously longer than swimming on your own. Last, I think SCUBA gear is too modern for minecraft. Maybe a potion that lets you breathe longer? Possibly brewed with shark or dolphin drop
