The addition of iron furnaces sounds good. Diamond furnaces.... not so much. In IndustrialCraft iron furnaces are about 20% faster than regular furnaces and materials used to fuel it last 25% longer. But if there was a 20% chance of doubling the output people would just use silk touch on every ore they find and get an extra 12.5 output from a stack of items. Iron furnaces would be good but Diamond furnaces would not work.
I like the idea, the only problem is who has that many diamonds to spare for something like a faster furnace? Maybe just normal diamonds and iron ingots? But I will admit to the fact that this is a pattern in Minecraft where you spend a lot for a little more convenience. A diamond sword actually takes one less hit to kill a player than a stone sword. So, your idea fits into Minecraft well, but maybe make the furnaces a bit easier to get?
I think gold furnaces would make sense. Yeah, in real life gold would melt, but think about it like this.
1. Gold would have a real application (it's almost useless right now)
2. Gold in minecraft has a good history of being 'very fast' at doing it's job i.e pickaxes, shovels
3. Making it a gold furnace rather than an iron furnace is more unique

First of all, Normal furnace be renamed "Stone Furnace".
Create a new item and block called "Iron Furnace" and "Diamond Furnace".
These types of furnaces is created from Iron blocks and Diamond blocks, or Iron ingots and Diamond ingots.
They sould smelt items faster than normal furnaces, and maybe have a 20% chanse of doubleing the output
That is my idea
