For me, the only useless block in Minecraft I've seen is the SPONGE
Yes, the sponge that took care of our liquid problems during the Beta Days.
However, in the official release, the Sponge lost its super-absorbent skills, rendering it useless.
I suggest that the Sponge be given back its porous prowess!
First: The crafting recipes.
First of all, the sponge would need a crafting recipe.
I have thought up of a way to craft it: sponge chunks.
They would look like yellow bonemeal. To craft them, you would need wool, and can be crafted in the Crafting table or Inventory Crafting. This would yield 4 Sponge chunks, and sponge chunks can act like buckets, but they cannot hold water.
Next, in the crafting table, 4 chunks should be arranged in a square fashion. This would yield the sponge block.
Second: The Effect
When the sponge block is placed, it should prevent water/lava from spreading in a 3 block radius. multiple blocks could also increase the radius.
That's it for now, and please, feel free to post suggestions/criticism.
I never found clearing up lava and water that hard. I would just pour water on lava and lava on water. Simple. Though I could see this useful when building an underwater base but other than that, not very useful.
Water is no different. Also, this would be annoying and bothersome. Why do we need sponges? Just use blocks to fill in and remove. Not everything has to be super easy.

Thank you, and good-bye.

Curse Premium2: Sponges are living creatures, you don't craft pigs, or sheep so why sponges?
