I was thinking that in 1.7 or 1.8, that Mojang could make a new biome. It would be an Abandoned City/Town. It would be very rare, even rarer than Mushroom Biomes. There would be zombies everywhere, and the occasional chest in a house/building. They could add a new block for it like asphalt for the streets.
Why not instead of a whole new biome just add a secondary village (a village generated normally except with some kind of coding tag) that causes it to be "inhospitable" for villagers. The buildings could be naturally missing blocks, have a few cobwebs, and villagers AI could tell them to "avoid" that abandoned village but it would still look pretty much the same other than what I just listed. Adding an entire new biome just for broken structures isn't the best way to go with this.
