Yes, this is a bug, but this shouldn't go in the bug section, I'll explain why. Mojang is well aware of it, my suggestion is an easy thing that can make infinite commands.
"'Doesn't that exist already?"
"No, it's a limitation with Java. I doubt Minecraft is ditching Java, but hey..."
This would be simple-Each command would have a corresponding number, and so would each option. For example, /gamerule could be saved as say, 4, and whenever it is typed it is "translated" to /4. Say mob greifing is set to 3, and false is 2. /4 3 2 would set gamerule "mob greifing" to false. Now, not only would commands have this, but also scoreboard names, teams, ect.
"So why is this useful?"
"I have had at least 3 servers that I had to delete because of this. Yes it's a bug but there is no fix, just a way to shorten commands."
I don't understand, why would this be useful? If I want mobGriefing false, I'll type "/gamerule mobGriefing false", it's much easier to understand than "/4 3 2". Why have you had to delete servers because of this? It makes no sense.

Some commands get really, really long. Especially /scoreboard. Java can't handle commands that are too long.
At first glance, I thought you meant the string item.
I understand how tiresome it can be by having to type out a bunch of long commands. To some extent I do support, but I don't understand why a server has to be shut down because of that.
