Early I posted about Bigger ships, and someone made a good point. You can't have multiple objects per slot, and create only one item. What if there was a bigger Crafting Table? It could be 6x6, and every slot in the current crafting table could be filled with wood. With this, there could be a bunch of totally different bigger things that could be built!
Well... Do you even have an idea on how the placing of objects would work when they are larger than one block?
There would be no problems, because as long as it is not a fraction of a block it would be fine. There are already objects in Minecraft that are more than 1 block, like beds and doors.

I'm assuming shipman meant there would be a crafting area of 6x6, not that the block itself would be larger than normal when placed in the world.
I think it's more interesting to create more complex trees of items (build components and then craft the components together to get a final object) than to increase the size of recipes to accommodate 6x6.
I don't think there will ever be a use for a larger crafting table. Unless it was to implement your suggestion, which I've stated is redundant and under developed compared to the one I've selected from using the search bar.
