A short idea, summed up by the title. A quick example:
Two teams, "Red" and "Blue". If you rename a zombie egg, creeper egg, or what have you, to "Red", the mob spawned by this spawn egg will not be hostile to any player on team Red, but will still be hostile to team Blue.
The thought stemmed from allowing players on a team-vs-team PVP map access to creeper eggs to 'bomb' the enemy team with. Issue is, obviously, mobs are hostile to all players. Any player could sabotage their team with the eggs and spoil the fun.
I don't claim to know what sort of complications there would be to implement this, so feel free to let me know. Just wanted to run a quick thought by, perhaps it'll get picked up if there's nothing wrong with it :P.
Hmm, I didn't think it would sound like that, but I can see where you're coming from. To me, the idea is a bit too small for it to be a full-blown plugin. Keep in mind that this sort of functionality wouldn't be seen in survival; it would be exclusive to creative mode because of that's how mob eggs are accessed (or if you just spawn in items).
Now what I had forgotten was that CURRENTLY, renaming mob eggs and spawning the mob will give the mob a name above their head matching the name of the mob egg. So I'm thinking that the whole hostility via renaming idea is a dud since there's already a feature in place of it. Shucks!
Edit: Really it's not that bad of an idea, just something extra to play around with in creative. And if it was for creative only I see no reason why it shouldn't be implemented. It could just be a little "fun" thing on the side of an update.
And that egg-renaming thing that's already implemented could cause problems, yeah. I suppose it would be easy enough to make it so if you renamed it "blue or "red" it would have that name and the special properties that could come with it. You could do this for every color available, really.
