This is a pretty good idea actually. It could be really cool for introductions to Adventure Maps or for "cutscenes" of sorts. Personally I don't like it being /endpoem though. Something along the lines of /playtext <text name>

I agree with this, it would be super cool. However, it would be AWESOME if I could copy-paste a photo's URL into the /endpoem <text> thing and for the photo to appear.

It would be better to include the image in the jar or map folder as thi would not work if you lost internet conenction.
BTW, you shouldn't bump your topic for attention. I believe it's against the rules. Especially since it's been udner 24 hours. If you had some new, completely relevant information to add, then it would certanly be allowed, but as I said before, I'm sure it's against the rules.
It's certainly practical, and I supose it could be quite useful. Will the text show up like the credits scene you see after fighting the Enderdragon?

Yes, will be exactly the End Poem (the text that we see after killing the dragon) with support of colours.
This will be a lot useful for mapmakers for show the history of the map and the credits.
I hope if this come out in 1.6.2...

Curse PremiumThis will help a lot of mapmakers.
The player do a .txt called "endpoem" and in game when he execute the command /endpoem the End Poem will appear.
Also the player can make various Poems, "endpoem2", "endpoem3" and they can be executed by the command "/endpoem endpoem2"
Or the file can be called "history" and will execute the command /endpoem history.
I think this will help A LOT of mapmakers
---Edit---
The command also can be /showText [name]
Idea from Deonyi
---Edit2---
Command also can be /playtext <text name>
Ideia from Badprenup
I support.
