In Minecraft, people often want to create realistic models of real-life buildings. Since many buildings are made of siding, which does not exist in Minecraft, this could be a very useful idea.
The crafting recipe is as follows:
W W W
S S S W=Wooden Planks; S=Sticks
W W W
Basic wooden siding would always be oak-colored (like fences), but could be colored with any kind of dye with the same crafting method as with wool. It would be able to be placed on the sides of any non-air blocks (hence the name) and would be non-flammable (like carpet).
The idea is simple, but the applications are endless! Be sure to hit the green arrow and post below at the bottom-right if you support.
A Small Note:
I am aware that this can be done using microblock mods, however with these mods, they have a broader range of widths and placement possibilities that I feel are unnecessary in vanilla Minecraft.

The idea is okay (if not kind of redundant, I know similar ideas have been requested before), but the problem is with how data is stored. Currently, each block gets 16 bits of data to determine things like color and whatnot. In colored blocks, all 16 bits are needed to choose the right texture. And on things like Torches, the data is used to determine what wall it is being placed on (4 are used for each wall, then one for if it is on the ground).
So with 16 colors and the ability to put it on four walls, that is 64 bits of data needed. How would that work? I actually have a possible solution but I don't know if it would work so I won't post it until I do some research.

I don't see this as too much of a problem. Colored armor has colors way more than just 16 bits, AND it needs to store it's damage.

I never thought about the data values before. Thanks for your insight!

Thank you. The logistics of this are a little difficult, but Mojang has surprised me before.
