I believe that adding multi colored, powerable light sources in the form of craftable blocks could be a cool creative addition to Minecraft (where the light itself has more than just that plain old light color or the dull red glow of active redstone ciruitry.)
Imagine sending your star destroyer or battleship into code red where the light is actually bright red, creating a sewer system with a creepy green eminating from beneath the water, dancing away at a club with a crazy blinking floor or just something as simple as distinguishing your castle from your neighbors with a cool blue glow!
The block could be a variation of the Redstone Lamp that lights when powered and is perhaps crafted with a Redstone Lamp and a Dye of various colors (I don't think shades of gray, black or brown lighting is necessarily required but who knows!)
There's already a massive thread detailing this, but the glass is colored instead. I'd give the link, but I forgot the name of the thread, sorry. It pops up frequently, though. Anyway, the current lighting system cannot support this (and neither can I).
