I have another idea. How about have it to where Noteblocks can make notes of different lengths according to how they're crafted? Here's how I would do the crafting:
How would the Slur blocks work? would they just slur with any note blocks that happen to be playing at the time?
Besides that, this idea is too complicated and expensive. Eight Diamonds for a whole note? I'll pass. A better way to improve note blocks would be to add more instruments, in my opinion.

I'm sure they could find a less expensive alternative than diamonds. I actually just thought of this. You could use Nether Quartz instead for the whole note block. And the slur blocks would work by combining Noteblocks to obtain notes with lengths other than the ones listed above.
I think 64th and 32th note blocks are kind of redundant and impossible.
And why not instead of adding a bunch of unneeded variants of the same block, we just have a GUI that allows us to change what length and sound the block makes?
64th Note Noteblock = Regular Noteblock + 8 Gold Nuggets
32nd Note Noteblock = Regular Noteblock + 8 Glowstone Dust
16th Note Noteblock = Regular Noteblock + 8 Redstone Dust
8th Note Noteblock = Regular Noteblock + 8 Coal
Quarter Note Noteblock = Regular Noteblock + 8 Cobblestone
Half Note Noteblock = Regular Noteblock + 8 Lapis Lazuli
Whole Noteblock = Regular Noteblock + 8 Diamonds
This would make it easier to compose music with Noteblocks. I also thought up a way to incorporate slurs into the mix as well:
Slurred Noteblock = Any type of Noteblocks (maximum 8) + 1 Obsidian
Any other ideas or questions?
