I have come up with an idea for a new tree. It only appears in Extreme Hills biomes. It bears its own fruit: the quince.
The quince tree is a tree with unique bark, bright leaves and light wood (between birch and oak).
The quince fruit is found at a greater rate than apples on oak trees (1 in 150 instead of 1 in 200) and looks like a plump yellow pear.
Raw quince restores 2 hunger points, just like an apple.
The quince can be cooked, and when it is, it produces a cooked quince that restores 4 hunger points. One cooked quince surrounded by golden ingots produces the golden quince. The golden quince restores 6 hearts and 6 hunger. When the Golden Quince is made with gold blocks, this is increased to 8 hearts and 8 hunger and gives 2 minutes of resistance and absorption and 30 seconds of Haste.
When the golden quince brewed with an Awkward Potion, a Potion of Cunning is created. This potion cuts the likelihood of poison in half (cave spiders and poison potions will only be effective 50% of the time) and decreases the likelihood of hostile mobs spotting you by 30% (a balance to track-happy zombies) for 3 minutes. Just like any other potion, the Potion of Cunning is extendable (8 mins) and can be strengthened (75% poison reduction and 50% tracking reduction).
Please give me your feedback on this idea and whether or not you want quinces and quince derivatives in vanilla Minecraft. If my quince tree and I get enough support, we may make it into Minecraft 1.7, which Jeb says will be a terrain update. If not, I would be happy to allow modders to use my idea.
P.S. If you read the entire post, say, "I know the truth about quinces."

Yeah. The pictures in the other one didn't render. The tree here was the only one that showed up.

I wouldn't mind quinces, but nor am I enthusiastic about them. It sounds much like a new form of oak tree and apple.
When you say "8 hunger", do you mean 8 full hunger bars, or 8 half-bars (4 full bars)? I would much prefer the latter, as the former sounds a bit extreme. Also a bit extreme is the 8 hearts of health healed, as long as that health is instantaneous; does it give you regeneration, or instant health?
What would the tree look like? If you don't mind me making a suggestion, I would much prefer a larger tree, as small trees are, in my opinion, dull and overly common.
I need to know how strong the potion is before I can support. Can it be extended or strengthened? Furthermore, does a "50% chance of being poisoned" mean cave spiders will only poison you 50% of the time, and splash potions of poison will only apply their effect half the time?

I added cooking and the Potion of Cunning to set it apart from the apple. I wasn't sure exactly how much the golden apple should recover. Now that I look back, 8 hunger and health is a bit OP. I will lower it to 6.
You're right about the poison. I had some trouble with the pictures, so I was lazy with the rest of the post. I'll try to rectify that, and then please tell me your opinion.

It's not a bad idea. The quince fruit seems like a decent idea. What I really like about the topic is the shape of the quince tree. I'd like to see some variation from the generally boring oak and birch trees. Not hating on Mojang at all, but some tree variation would be nice.
I know the truth about quinces - they aren't a bad idea at all. I support this.
Instead of the reduction in mobs' ability to spot you, why not a decrease in their chase/lock-on distance? To me that sounds simpler and perhaps even more useful.
I think I made quite a mistake on the golden quince being "extreme", and allow me to elaborate:
Enchanted golden apples give you Regeneration V for 30 seconds, which, if my math is correct, comes out to a heart per 2 ticks, or 0.1 seconds. So, theoretically, you can heal 600 hearts with a golden apple, on top of having resistance and fire resistance for 5:00, and absorption for 1:30. Enchanted golden quinces have a one-time use of 8 hearts of health, as compared to 30 seconds of almost infinite health. Their apple counterpart gives longer absorption, fire resistance, and resistance; it's only disadvantage is the amount of hunger it gives, which is negligible.
The difference is quite a bit less stark between the normal quince and the normal apple, however. The quince heals 6 hearts, the apple gives regeneration for 1.5 hearts as well as absorption. In short, the enchanted golden quince needs some serious buffs. I'm awfully sorry for getting my first post so very wrong.
A tree model would be nice, but other than that I can't think of anything.

That's actually what I meant.

Thanks forclearing that up.

I can do that.

It's fine. You didn't mess up as badly as I did with the original of this post.

Do you mean a model of what it would look like in vanilla blocks, or what the actual texture would look like? I probably can't provide a texture, as I don't know how, but I can definitely do the former (on Saturday, as the computer I'm using now is way too bad for MC).

I just meant a tree model in vanilla. I've never paid much attention to texture, and it's often easy to describe with words. But that's just an idea, it doesn't make the suggestion itself any better or worse. For example, If you said "it's a 10-block-tall tree with branches going out" it would be enough for me.
Quince trees in real life are fairly small, so in Minecraft I would say that it's birch sized, but with branches and more rounded out foliage. But I'm not great with scaling structures, and I'm not sure that that's ideal, so I'll leave the shape of the tree out of the main post.

(I'm guessing this is the right thread as the other one has a bunch of random text)
Also, here is an awesome suggestion I had: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1745550-biome-effects/
