There are many great mobs in the game and I remember a time when killing the dragon was a big deal. Then there was the Wither Boss who is a hard opponent, however with all the enchanted swords, bows, and armor, and not mention regeneration potions the Wither Boss is not that hard to defeat any more. I think that it's time to create a supper mob boss.
I have several ideas, the easiest idea would be to create a Mob boss that requires a huge amount of hit points to defeat. But I think the guys at Mojang could be more creative then that.
How about a mob boss were the harder you hit it the less damage it took. So a normal non-enchanted bow would cause 5 hit points and a power 3 bow would cause 1 hit point. You could do the same thing with armor to that you took more damage by wearing armor then not. I think the idea might have some merit but needs more development.
My other idea would be for a Creeper Boss (maybe 3 times the size of a normal Creeper). Could you imagine fighting a Creeper boss that spawned 5 (or more) regular Creepers each time it took a hit? That would be supper hard to fight and would cause super damage against those who fight it. I like this idea the best.
Or you could combine the last two ideas and have a Creeper Mob Boss, and the number of Creepers it spawns is dependent on how hard you hit it. So the harder you hit it the more Creepers it spawns.
I would love to hear your thoughts about these ideas and your ideas for a new Mob boss.
A creeper boss has been done, probably several times, as a mod, sorry to say. The other idea sounds like your just trying to stop people from enchanting and go back to the old days. It makes sense, sure, but there's no challenge there, just go low tech. An idea for the creature itself, maybe it has really long shins with several feet spaced out on top of each other, and crawls around on them, has a thick tail to counteract anything on the other side of it, and maybe some kind of claws and such on that side. Just some ideas, you can go crazy with it if you want.
Wearing armor increases the damage you take? Thats rediculous! I disagree with the fact that more powerful gear actually does less. Pretty much everything else you said fits. It should be made so that the boss is so powerful, that fighting it with even enchanted gear makes it a challenge, otherwise that would defeat the whole purpose of calling it a "boss" wouldn't it?
I'd like to see maybe a spider like boss and call it the Black Widow. Have it be like a giant spider that shoots webs that slow you down as well as damage you and be able to inflict poison like a cave spider. Have it generate in a cobweb temple and the way to kill it is to cut off the abdomen of the Black Widow and then fight the resulting spiders that spawn from it and finish off the boss.

Retired StaffAlso, you said you wanted something new and original, but a a giant creeper is probably the most unoriginal thing you could have suggested...
