You know when you get to a village, full of villagers, you get used to it,build(or steal)a house arround there, and find a villager who gives more emeralds for less stuff, than you get the stuff and go in search of the villager, but you can't find him! He's just like many, many other villagers, there's nothing that distinguish it frome the others, and just to make it harder,it is a moving target. You spend lots of time searching for him,and time in minecraft is precious. When you find him(or not)it's probably already night, and monsters are out there,so you have no time to go arround searching for a single villager. So,the solution is:villagers naturally spawned with random names! The name appears above his head, just like a player in smp(or since 1.5,himself when spawned from renamed spawn eggs). It could solve that single problem, and add some funny names to villagers ;).
P.S.I also support Brinjal66's suggestion, for better trading gui's for villagers, and mojang for adding villager sounds in 1.6 :).

So it would be based on a mad-lib type selection? Choosing a random name from the list of first names, and the same with last name?
Seems feasible, but lacks an elaboration to further define your thoughts. I think if this were added to the game it would be a lot laggier, due to the fact that entities can't despawn when they are specifically named. However, this will already be implemented in 1.6 by terms of the name tag.
Doesn't solve a huge problem, but would be a minor feature for the game. Support, I suppose.
I believe the latest snapshot covers doing something similar to this in multiplayer; singleplayer can't be far behind.
I would actually like to have this in-game, as it would bring more of an rpg-feel to it. It would also like you said, get you a bit more acquainted with the villagers.
Man,the villagers would be NATURALLY named, the name chosen randomly from a list of names. And no last name, villagers don't need last names X).I i didn't saw anything like that in the snapshot, besides name tag.And name tag is rare, onlyfound in dungeons, and can be used in any mob,and the named mob, seeminly don't despawn, and in my suggestion, the only things that change in a villager,is that there's a name above his head, and in top of his gui,and he spawns like that.

I would find it cool too to get to the villagers streets saying,!"Hey george!","How you doin' Pete?" or "Can you get me a weapon,Moogle?"kkkk.

That probably means they're working on single player.
Honestly, I think it should be a rule that before you make a suggestion, you read all the latest updates.
