Slight criticism, months were originally defined as the periods of a moon. Each new moon signaled a new month, and most time was measured in the number of moons ("It's been many a moon since I've seen you." is now rendered, "I haven't seen you in months/ages.")
Because of this, changing each phase into four 5-day periods would give a 20-day month. If you were to change that to four 7-day periods, you'd have a 28 day month.
As of right now, you're looking at a 12 day month, which, while not complaining, seems a bit shortish.

Well i was thinking that the waxing and waning stages would last 9 days since there are technically three stages within those. so with that it would be a 48 day month.
I don't think the moons are that great as far as effects but it would make a nice mod.
On the other hand i believe if dinnerbone listens to sethbling for some customization features the calender would be a GREAT idea.

But without the moons and the moon's effects there would be no need for a calendar to show when the next set of moons are.
There are;
New moon,
Waxing moon,
Full moon,
Waning moon,
There are also types of moons;
Harvest moon (Large and orange)
Blue moon (… Blue!)
Normal phases. Normal phases last three days apiece.
Exhaustion rates are 20% higher at night.
Rare mobs such as Spider Jockeys have a higher chance of spawning above ground.
Waxing moon; Normal night.
Waning moon; Normal night.
New moon effects; (Regeneration of power)
Exhaustion rates are 40% lower at night.
Normal mobs have a higher spawn rate aboveground.
Special moons.
Mobs have a 50% chance of spawning with pumpkins.
All mobs spawn rates double overground.
All mob rates are cut in half underground. (touches sky)
Happens every 60 days.
Blue moon effects; an extremely rare moon. One night long.
Mob spawning rates lowered for this night. (Very low)
Bright blue moon raises a bluish tint over everything.
Blue fog covers the ground. (Better clouds?)
Light level stays above mob spawning rates.
Chances of happening are 1 in 1000 nights.
Item;
Calendar;
The calendar is my only suggestion for an item. It’s gui would show the number of days till the next moon of your choice.
Idea for crafting Is 8 paper surrounding a clock.
Support.

I like the idea of a blue and harvest moon; however I think it would be best if they are just aesthetic.
I was thinking of halloween with the harvest moon.
