1. It is pretty much hell.
2. It is fire, so nothing should grow.
3. We need at lease one place were nothing grows.
3b. It adds some verity.
1. That isn't really a proper response. "Why shouldn't there be life in the Nether?" "It is pretty much hell." Who says hell can't have some life?
2. Minecraft doesn't abide by real life laws. If it did the Nether wouldn't exist in the first place.
3. No, we don't "need" a place like that.
3b. So *variety is a dimension that looks exactly the same wherever you go?
Make them not catch on fire I would assume. Again, the OP isn't perfect and I don't think his suggestion will fix the Nether, I'm just saying that just because it has leaves doesn't mean it shouldn't be there.
All i had to see was the topic title and that picture of the texures and you have all my support i love the color scheme of it, it fits perfectly with the wood and the netherrack, can you please send me an image of the textures you made for the picture? i want to remake the texture and see how it'd look to fill a part of the nether with these trees of yours, i think it'd look awesome
I like the idea of nether trees, i always think about it, but i'm not sure about the way your doing it. They should be dead, scorched, sickly looking, hands reaching and clawing away from the ground, not retextured oak trees. The saplings/leaves look too much like netherwarts, the timber looks too similar to nether bricks, and their is no real reason to even look at them. Thats the big part, give them a reason. But i really do support the idea of nether trees.
Hm... I think if they appeared rarely, it would be a nice touch. However, I think they would look even better if they were a charcoal sort of wood material, rather than just dark wood.
I'm saying that hell should be a threatening and hostile place. That can be accomplished through a number of ways, such as a desolate burning wasteland or an evil, shrouded forest filled with things that want to kill you. I'm not saying it should be full of life, but not empty either.
I agree completely. We should include a couple more biomes in the nether, along with other aesthetic features. However, there is a very fine line between enough and too many. The nether jungle biome you posted above looks very hostile, hard to navigate, and, overall, hellish. It would probably fit into the nether, if implemented correctly. Adding a majority of overworld biomes would kill the nether, though. I wouldn't want to see it end up looking too much like the overworld.
However, I do support the suggestion. Except for the leaves. They're all the same shade of red. And maybe change the shape of the tree, considering it looks exactly like an overworld tree. A twisted, ugly tree would belong in the nether. The suggestion only touches upon things that could be done to the nether, so I give this little idea support.
I disagree with everyone who says "The Nether has to be X". If you ask me, the only thing the Nether has to be is fun, that's the whole point of video games, isn't it? So sure, you could have a Nether that is strictly X (dead, hellish, etc.), and never deviates from that core idea, or you could have one that only aims to be entertaining; but I will always want the latter.
This is not to say that all considerations of theme ought to be thrown out the window. On the contrary, things that are out of place with the theme are occasionally so jarring they cannot be fun; so by all means, discard an idea if it might be fun in a certain scenario, but not in the one being considered. But it's not so simple as that; sometimes things don't quite fit with the established theme, but you think the addition would be so fun that it makes up for the loss of consistency. That's a valid reason, but you're taking a bit of a gamble. However, I don't think this idea is "jarring", nor do I see how it could possibly be so, so I don't believe it fits into these last two categories of mine.
"The Nether has to be harder." Why, would that make it more enjoyable? Making the Nether impossible to survive in, while fitting in with a certain set of ideas, might not make the dimension "better", per se.
"Anything that doesn't fit in with the idea of a Hellish Nether is bad." Why, does making the Nether a replica of a Christian Hell (and Christians are not the only ones to play Minecraft) make it more fun? Possibly, but I doubt it. In my opinion, that drastically cuts down on the amount of innovation you can have.
"The Nether should have trees in it." Would that make the game more fun? Perhaps, although I am mostly ambivalent on the idea. What I think would be better would be a more interesting tree design, with larger, winding trees occasionally going up all the way to the ceiling; anything that would make the Nether a place someone might want to change to peaceful for, just to be safe from Ghasts while admiring the scenery; something to make the Nether a place to willfully explore.
Anyway, I suppose that is just my way of saying that I don't think that plants are all that out of place in the Nether, and that I'm not wild about the idea.
Cool idea I mean props for trying, But it is lame because the nether is not meant to support life. Only half life like zombie-pigmen xD But I really do not think this belongs in the game. No support, Good try though.
hmmm, it being based off christian hell isn't good obviously, but what other kinds of hell even exist?, all religons have this sorta thing, as far as i know anyway, although i know my religons hell has a sea of solid stone in the shape of waves, and people get kicked off of cliffs onto this sea, plenty of other hells though.
plants are okay as long as they aren't fireproof, poisonous, retextured oak trees.
I don't see why it has to be any sort of hell at all, why can't it just be the Nether? It can go its own separate way, and it's probably for the better. I think of this as being similar to how the Overworld shouldn't be exactly like the real world, else it would no longer be fun.
I wouldn't mind fireproof, poisonous plants, but I agree, as soon as you throw "retextured oak trees" in the lot, the idea loses a lot of value. It could even be some new sort of giant mushroom or plant-like fungus.

Why isn't id good? Well? I think it's good because it is the closest to the nether, lake of fire.
For all those people blathering about the Nether and hell, I have two things to say.
1. The Nether wasn't intentionally created to reflect hell.
2. Who are you to tell us what hell looks like?
Remove the Herobrine eyes, and I support. The eyes look just weird, and we definitely don't need Herobrine references in the game itself.
Ok, i'm not here to say well your wrong, i'ld just like to ask you what biome the nether is meant to be.
I feel that the tree shouldn't be alive because what kind of tree would survive in the nether! Yes obviously a 'nether tree', but this is just a retextured oak tree. Think about how this thing gets here, maybe a huge hand of some not so lucky traveler trying to escape the ground itself. I would like to refer you to my previous comment for more detail, but the way it is done here, especially with the herobrine eyes, I don't support.
I'm going to need more to go on other than "it's just kind of there". You need reasons for your statement. For example, I have reasons for why the Nether should have life in certain places.
1: Adds variety to an otherwise boring dimension.
2: Lets the player survive there with no resources (punching wood).
3: Give Mojang opportunities to add new mechanics to open up more possibilities like fire retardant wood and plants that do damage.
Now present me with reasons why the Nether would be better off not having that stuff, or other ways this could be accomplished.
1- The nether is a biome itself, not a group of them, it's obviously monotonous.
2- The nether should be harsh, players should be prepared beforehand to go in there. It just defeats the purpose.
3- Mojang already has plants with damage, ever heard of cactus?

Curse PremiumFor those who say that the nether is suppose to be dead, how will lifeless looking trees really effect the feeling?
Seriously, has anyone here been to hell? You guys are acting like it.
well, that, and don't make it a derpy 5-block tree with the exact same leaf pattern as an oak tree.

Curse PremiumThese trees usually connect from floor to ceiling and can have many branches, leaves may grow even if branch is pointing downward.
Netherwood trees may be found growing sideways, this one has branches!
This tree grows in similar matter to how fungus grows on trees.
