The Block Faller is a redstone activated block, that makes other blocks fall when given power.
The Block Faller is crafted like this.
The Block Faller looks like this.
When you power it with redstone, the dark wire will light up red. If a solid block is touching the gold side, the block will be given gravity, and fall down. It loses it's gravity when it hits the ground, and turns back into a normal block. This can be used for many things, such as elaborate traps, decoration, and adventure maps.
Right clicking the Block Faller will activate the Drop mode. When it is powered by redstone, the block in front of it is destroyed, and dropped as an item. This is good for breaking blocks to be collected into a hopper.
The Block Faller has no effect on certain blocks, such as non-solid blocks, obsidian, bedrock, and other ones that could mess things up.

Thoughts?
Nice idea. This won't need much code to do. You can find modder that will do this for you. You can try to do this using mod maker but you will still have to do some coding
I think "you can use ... (involving mcedit, other tools or an ingame bug)" should be treated equally to "there's a mod for this".
I like this idea but I don't know if it's necessary to add a nether star and I don't think "faller" is the optimal name. Somewhere, somebody knows a way better name ...
Do you (people) think this should break obsidian?
No, it should not be, because you can use an mcedited or nbt-edited world in a vanilla server.

I was going to name it a Dropper, but there is already a block called the Dropper, so I had to make a different name.
Well the power of it is a bit OP, so it needs to be expensive. I think it's a great idea, the recipe is perfect, support.
