Have you ever thought, "Gee, I wish I had some Mooshrooms, but Mushroom Islands are SOOOO rare! Plus, I have to travel through SOOOO much bland, blue terrain to get there!" No longer! I believe, and I hope that you do, too, that Mojang should add an option in the "New World Options" screen that limits ocean size to less than 256 chunks in area (which is, oddly enough, 256 meters on a side if it were square), making them more like large lakes, which are easily boated across or can be walked around. This would, more or less, reverse the terrain generator, as it really likes to generate smallish continents (comparatively) in big oceans at the moment. I would find optional small oceans to be a really great addition that would make gameplay much more enjoyable, and I hope that you do too!
While this'd be good as a terrain gen option, I think you mean less than 256 blocks, not chunks. A chunk is 16*256*16 blocks, so a 256 chunk ocean would be absolutely humongous; probably bigger than most current ones.
If you use either one of these Presets under Superflat Customize in More World Options, your entire world will be a Mushroom Island Biome and you won't have an ocean at all.

I can't honestly say I support this idea only because there already exists ways to get around it, as well as the option to spam create seeds until you find a world where you spawn in the center of a massive continent. Sure, all naturally generated worlds produce oceans but not all of them will spawn you near one and some seeds will spawn you on top of a Mushroom Island or even have one partially connected to the main land, personally I think the addition of Jungle Biomes ruined enough as it is... no offense intended.
Though if it's just another option and not a game altering/breaking concept, I guess I can support that.

I by no means mean blocks! And I am aware of the size of a chunk, and, have you ever boated across an ocean before? I once boated 10,000 meters and it still didn't end! 256 meters across is nothing (You think I made a mistake, but I didn't! 256 CHUNKS in area is 256 METERS on a side, if it is square! That's barely a quarter kilometer!) I could easily boat that in 5 minutes.

Did you read the whole post? It is just an option.

If you found me a way to make the superflat world have every biome but oceans, and make it not flat, I will completely re-do this post.
Okay seriously, making an option just to have smaller oceans is really, how do I put this without offending you, not good. Either you have smaller oceans or you don't.
I like the current, normal biome size, it's just that oceans can be ridiculous.
Well, oceans get so large because a lot of ocean biomes cluster together, making one huge, continuous ocean. So, if we make all biomes cluster together like that and reduce the size significantly, then regular biomes will not change in size by much, but oceans will shrink.

Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
Please click the dragons, they need to grow. Also, my fully grown dragons can be found in my bio.
I'd actually like this, along with more numerous, and bigger lakes. I like lakes.

Also, here is an awesome suggestion I had: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1745550-biome-effects/
