Of course, when this is set to false (defaults to true) it keeps the player's nametags hidden, like when holding crouch or with an invisibility potion.
I think this could make some PvP maps much more exciting. There's really no reason not to add this.
I have a reason not to add this. Because there is a better implementation.
/gamerule playernamedistance <amount>
Sets how far away you can see name tags. 0 would disable names, and whatever other number you put is how close you have to be for it to render. That way you could make so you could see names from really far away, from just a couple blocks away, or disable it entirely. Default would be 16, and I think the maximum would probably be 256 or something.
