Soul Sand Beaches: Soulsand bordering netherrack around lava lakes.
Lava Rivers: Self explanatory. Rivers of lava flowing through the nether.
Pillars: These are 2x2 Nether Brick pillars that randomly spawn in the nether. They have no point, they just make the nether look a little bit more nice.
Blah blah blah I do not care.
Bone Wasteland: This sub-biome is a desert made up of a new block called bone piles. These blocks are basically a bunch of bones scrunched up together. Breaking a bone pile will give you 4 bones, unless you have silk touch. (You can craft them with 4 bones too) Skeleton Horse jockeys can be found riding around frequently. There are also tendrils of flesh blocks, (they act the same as bone piles, except with rotten flesh) that extend all the way up to the ceiling of the nether.
This should be its own thread. I'm pretty sure bone blocks have been suggested. Flesh tentrils from the ceiling sounds FREAKING AWESOME!
Rock Candy Ore: This ore would be a hot pink color. It would be striped like nether quartz. When you mine it, you get 3-6 Nether Rock Candy. The candy looks like the Lapis Lazuli gem, but a hot pink. It isn't very saturating, but it restores 3 hunger points. The ore is as rare as gold in the overworld, but it should be a little bit easier to find, since the nether is an open area.
Now, here we've got to the reason why I'm posting in this thread at all. ROCKY CANDY ORE YES YES YES! DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE SAYING IT DOESN'T FIT! This is a great idea. We can work on the balance issues, if people think it would make it too easy to survive in the nether. Maybe it doesn't fill as much food. Maybe it includes a de-buff, like spider eyes or rotten flesh. It's already rare though, so I'm going to go ahead and say it's sufficiently balanced, as far as I can calculate.
Fire Cactus: You can find fire cactus anywhere on soulsand in the nether. They're red cactus with fire particles coming off them. They will set you on fire. When you smelt them, you get Blazing Red Dye. You can use this like any other dye. It gives off fire particles to whatever applied to. (It will do it with ANY item you can dye) You can grow these on soulsand.
meh. Sounds like more item bloat. We don't need nether cactuses.
Flying Zombies: These Zombies spawn in packs of 3-7. They have red red/purple pants, no shirt, and their skin color is a blueish green color. They behave like normal zombies, except when you kill them, they'll get split into two by the waist, and the upper half will levitate after you, while the legs continue to walk.
Creeper Heads: Flying creeper heads that zoom towards you and explode when it touches you. They only have 4 HP though, so if you're quick enough, you can kill it with one strike. They're a little bit more common than ghasts, meaning you won't run into them too often, but still quite a few times.
Not interested. We have plenty of nether mobs. Does every mob need an exact analog in the nether? You might think so, but I don't.
So... two really good ideas in this thread. I guess other people will see other things they like, so well done there. But personally, I'd take most everything out, and just leave the flesh tendrils and the rock candy.
I'd definitely like to see a few more biomes in the nether. It gets boring with only one.
I'd like a biome that was cool enough to let you pour water into it-perhaps the water would look different/appear to be boiling. Maybe it could be in the same biome as the nether-ice? You could have some sort of nether-snow that is whitish or grayish and ash-like, which would appear in the coolest parts of the nether, which are still hotter than anywhere in the overworld.
How about truffles that you can find by digging in soul sand (as an "ore" of sorts)? You could also add the ability to eat nether wart, with extremely high saturation but low hunger refill.
Yes!!

I want ocean content(thanks Möjang!), nether biomes(again thanks!!), and savanna passive mobs (meerkats incoming!?).
I don't think it should be that easily livable. My guess is the Nether is supposed to be Hell. It is meant to be something difficult to tread into. Dangerous to be in for too long. Impossible to conquer.
I think creating a brand new dimension would be cool though. Maybe something more like a place akin to purgatory.
I like most of it. There are a few things that I don't particularly think works/make sense.
Rock Candy Ore: It doesn't seem to fit the nether, why would an environment like that have candy? In theory, you can live off rotten flesh (eat a bunch at once, and just let hunger take its course). If you need more food variety, either have it drop of another mob like zombie pigman or something like Flesh Blocks, a block of meat that player can "mine" and have to cook before eating.
Fire Cactus: Doesn't look unique enough. It sounds like it's just cactus, that's on fire. I would suggest something like Nether Thorn (in short, think briar patch). instead of growing up to three block vertical, it "carpets" soul sand instead. Block behaves like bushes/flower and has no movement hitbox and inflict damage if player is in it.
Flying Zombie: It's a zombie, that flies. Seems a bit "copy-pasted" on. Nether already have zombie pigman, we don't need another zombie type.
Creeper Head: It's a creeper, that flies. Similar issue with flying zombies. While nether don't have creeper equivalent (unless you count ghast), it's just doesn't feel well thought out.

I am a friend of all Snow Golem kind.
