Remember when endermen first came out? They were feared and respected. Now they have become a target of mob grinding and thats all!
And with this recent snapshot, zombies are more powerful than endermen!
Endermen need to be heavily buffed. More health, more damage, new behavior.
I don't know what exactly would be great, Dinnerbone is good with coming up with those ideas, I'm mostly concerned that they are much to weak right now, and Zombies now have more features than endermen.
Behavioral Changes:
I couldn't think of much except to make endermen creep around the player. Endermen should constantly glance towards the player (as if checking to make sure they aren't being watched) and should maintain a distance from the player. Part of the reason endermen aren't what they used to be, is because they aren't hostile until you attack them. I offer 2 Choices:
A ) Endermen attack when you approach OR
B ) When approaching an endermen they will teleport behind the player a certain distance, but maintain non-hostile.
This would remove the aspect about endermen that makes them less respectable and add a suggestion of difficulty without needing to actually buff the enderman.
Combat Changes:
I had a few ideas, so I arranged them as a list.
A ) Endermen have long arms, but they don't really use them for combat. What a shame. And isn't it strange no mob has a "Critical Strike" besides the player? Well, the endermen should use these arms as a rare critical strike chance. They would grab the player and teleport the player and the enderman himself to a random location within the range of the enderman. This should 1: Do more damage than the average attack, and B: disorient the player due to quick location change during combat. Giving the enderman some sort of Critical Strike would keep them as the most powerful mob less than the dragon as was intended during its first creation. This strike would, however, be rare (1/10, maybe even 1/20, chance).
B ) Endermen should use their ability to carry blocks around during combat. Endermen would more viciously pick up and place blocks while fighting to attempt to hinder the players movement and annoy them. No-one who is building a structure would dare fight an enderman if they knew the enderman would have this behavior. I think it would also be cool if the endermen would try to suffocate players with blocks, dirt, sand, gravel, stone, etc.
C ) Endermen should just have a normal health+damage boost. They could be more intelligent, have new behavior, but their combat shouldn't change.
These are choices you can vote for, however I am in favor of A.
Eh. Perhaps if they are holding a block, they can smash it on the head of the player.
I was thinking this while reading the post.

Click the above image for science! Some people think it's a scam. But it's not. Why else would I put this in my sig?
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door is by far the world's best Nintendo game ever made.

The best part about this is the endermen teleporting YOU. That would be terifying in a new world. But I dont think that endermen should have higher health or damage. They already have double the health of other mobs, and each of their strikes does the same damage as a diamond sword. They should have less predictable AI that makes them, say throw blocks at you. This would give them a ranged attack as well as a melee. Making them as feared as they once where.
Support, there is a LOT of potential for endermen to be waayyyy harder, and therefor cooler. Adding new attacks and more aggressive behavior. And also, make them able to attack at a range so you can't make those 2 block "murder holes" for easy ender pearls.
