Before leather was added, leather Armour was made from "cloth", which is now wool.
What if we had wool armour back? To be different from leather, I think it should not give armour points, or very little, but still dyeable. It would be separate from leather armor.
A related (this is not a wish list) idea is that tanned or studded leather be introduced, with increased defensive capabilities, slightly below iron, but above standard leather.

What do you think of tanned leather armor?
I don't really understand the point of wool armor. I understand that you would like to be a social armor, but from my logic, it doesn't really have any advantages over leather. Leather is already somewhat a social armor, while it may double as easily obtainable starter armor, it still is customize-able (i.e. dying) and doesn't maintain it's practicality after one obtains iron armor (which usually doesn't take to long compared to upgrading to the higher types of armor, e.g. diamond) .
As far as studded leather, I've seen it suggested before and am rather indifferent.
Personally I see the studded leather as more of a mod thing, I see it would be a little bit useful, but not very much so,
But I like the idea of wool armor, it's social but not defensive, and acts as the I'm-not-armor-but-at-least-you-aren't-naked! Sort of rpg ish clothing.
I don't know if I ever posted my pied armour suggestion, but I was thinking that wool armour could be coloured according to sections. A wool chestpiece, for example, would be divided into eight coloured segments, according to the colours of wool that you used to craft it. With this you could do some interesting designs, from court jesters (red, blue, yellow) to camouflage (green and brown) and everything in between.
