Not positive this is the best place to bring this up, but if so, please feel free to move to the appropriate subforum (could be just a bugfix?).
As my kid plays this a lot more often than I do, I've come across a slight flaw that could be remedied with a suggestion. He frequently creates new worlds. When I say frequently, I mean I had just went through after about 6 months and cleaned out a good 50 untouched worlds that were simply eating up space. The thing is, he creates a new world and just goes with it. Minecraft's current handling on a default name is always "New World". If "New World" exists, it concatenates "-" to it, until a new name is made.
I am currently having an issue in Win7 now due to this, as when I went to clean out the old worlds, I found that the "-" concatenation has managed to make the folder name exceed the allowed length, which I'm still trying to figure out how to delete (we're talking a few folders named "New World----------------------------<50+ times>". Now, the odds of this happening are low, so I understand how this "bug" slipped through, but I figured the ideal suggestion would be to change how the "repeat name renaming" process works, having it, instead of concatenate onto the name, have an incrementing counter, so "New World 1", "New World 2", etc., whenever a repeat name comes up. Barring that, having Minecraft request a unique name when a world exists with that same name.
While this can just be remedied by naming the world at creation, you have a good point. The numbering system is not the best thing right now, and I find myself in a similar situation sometimes because I generate a world, don't like the seed, and make a new one. It is tedious to name them all myself before each new world and it is easier to delete multiple worlds from .minecraft than in the game. But when you have a bunch of folders with the New World followed by a lot of dashes it can be a pain to deal with. But it isn't a big issue.
Support.
Also, I would say to use File Shredder. It should be able to delete them for you.

I agree that simply appending "-" was a weird decision, especiaslly when everybody else in the industry deals with this in one of three very known ways:
- "Name already taken": force player to choose another name
- "Are you sure you want to overwrite?" kind of like when saving a Microsoft word document to the same name as a preexisting other document.
- Append a numbering suffix, but with the first number available (-1, -2, ..., -99999999).

Tried File Shredder. It can't seem to deal with it at all. I think this now definitely needs to be moved to support, as I really have no clue how to delete these old worlds. If I tried to add folder, it wouldn't let me select it, and if I tried add file, I couldn't navigate into those folders - they simply weren't visible. Can a mod move this to support for me?

I doubt you are still up but this should stay here and you should make a new thread in support. This is a good idea and should remain here.
