With the introduction of the attribute system in snapshot 13w16a, custom map makers need an easier way than command blocks to alter a particular item, like a sword or bow. The custom map block will allow creative players ONLY to add enchantments, add attributes, change the name and tag of an item and edit potion effects. Abilities like clone and clear could be implemented, making it easier to produce more of a single item you have edited
I don't quite understand, attributes work great with command blocks, you have an anvil with enchanted books in creative mode you can use to name and enchant items/weapons, and lastly the scroll wheel on the mouse allows you to copy any item (even if enchanted).
Point taken, but with normal enchanting, can you
apply enchantments with higher levels if required?
You could also add normally unavailable potion
effects like jump boost or wither. Also, I don't believe
there is a way yet to legitimately change any attributes
yet. About the cloning items, I did not know of the mouse
scroll wheel feature. And at least the item tag editing would
finally possible in vanilla minecraft

Why are you
typing like
this?
However, I don't think this is needed. It's really quite easy to use NBTEdit and other programs to change item attributes.
I thought of this idea when I read about the new attribute system and thought using commands to edit these attributes might get a bit of getting used to, so I thought a new block to help edit them would be a good idea. I thought it could also have the ability to rename ect to make it the perfect creative mode item editor. I have never used NBTedit before so if that is just as easy, great.
