I just thought of a really good idea where ocean biomes contain salt water instead of fresh water. Salt water would cause some sort of effect which would cause "dehydration" which I guess would be combined effects of weakness, slowness, and poison I. If a person were to put salt water bucket in a furnace then the outcome would be fresh water bucket. Lastly, I think squids should only spawn in salt water...... I usually don't see squids swimming around in lakes. This might also help to set a stage of a thirst bar... Possibly. And this also might help in making new types of fish which would correspond to each type of water (bass in fresh water, cod in salt water)
Good god. Oil was enough. You don't need to over complicate the types of water. That would make it, what, 6 different MC liquids? dude, 3 was stretching it. I don't think we need to add THAT much into it.
Well might be a good idea if they add like Salt into minecraft. You can get the water from the bucket and then somehow get the salt out and make salt blocks! [Or other stuff] As for if you try to swim in ocean maybe it takes slower for the air to go. Also great if they added that you need to drink water in minecraft you couldnt drink from oceans or get Any Drinkable water via buckets or bottles. For water on land it would be freshwater
EDIT: Perhaps the water can be like a different color if its salt?
Salt water for the ocean ain't a bad idea. Introduce salt as a powder gotten by 'boiling' salt water in an oven, or by leaving in a bucket, out in the sun for a certain period of time. (Evaporation)
Salt could be used for other food recipes, or to 'cook/cure' fish or meat if you are stuck in a desert with no wood and no coal.
...or used in potions...such as effecting sight. (Try getting salt in yer eyes!)
9 salt 'powders' to make a salt block, another white block for construction.....not bad.
Difference between Salt and Fresh Water?
Salt water obviously has salt in it, and is in the ocean...with the squids. Fresh water is used for everything else.
I like this idea. The fish sounds cool, but may get a bit too weird. Also, when you cook salt water, it should also give you 1 salt, and like someone suggested, this can be usable.

Curse PremiumFurthermore, your idea of multiple water types of extremely useless. Why can this not simply be tied to biome?

It could work.
Useless things, the concept of our minds.
