Here is an idea to improve Quartz; turn them into fibre optics!
If a standard quartz block receives light, it will propagate the light 32 blocks. Light can only propagate through Quartz pillars though and only though the pillar in the direction of the grooves. This idea could help make new light systems.
If sunlight make crops grow faster, this could be a way to take the sunlight to your farm.
That would require revamping the lighting engine because lighting is representative as a single hexadecimal digit. 32 = Hex value + Binary Value = Overcomplicating for one feature.

How come you always beat me by one minute to these threads?
You already said what I would have.... in a much more complicated manner...

I'm on the fence on this one. Light doesn't work that way internally in minecraft and I doubt it would be compatible unless adding a new kind of "signal" different from redstone. Seems complicated.
I don't see how it would be hard. Simply get the highest block light from the start block which would be a chiseled quartz block and then, at every end block, make it emit a light.
