I thought that there should be magical swords that can be crafted, not enchanted. This is useful for people who don't have access to an enchanting table or a dungeon, but is still hard to do. There will be three new swords and four new arrows.
Sword#1
Flame Sword
That's blaze powder in the center, this can also be done with gold and diamond. It basically sets a mob on fire. It also shoots a fireball if you right-click it.
Sword#2
Ice Sword
That water in the center is ice. This can also be done with gold and diamond as well. this stuns a mob for 5 seconds, and has a chance of stunning it for 10 seconds, and has an even smaller chance of stunning it permanently.
Sword#3
Lightning Sword
The gunpowder is redstone. This only works with gold, because it's the best conductor. It does half the damage of a lightning bolt and sets a mob on fire. It has a 10 percent chance to turn a creeper into a charged creeper.
Arrow#1
Flame Arrow
The fire is blaze powder. It sets a mob on fire.
Arrow#2
Ice Arrow
The water is ice, it does the same thing as the ice sword
Arrow#3
Electrical Arrow
The gunpowder is redstone. it does the same thing as the electrical sword.
Arrow#4
Explosive Arrow
The gunpowder is gunpowder this time. It causes an explosion as big as a creepers'
A bit OP, with the stunning thing. And the explosive arrow opens a whole new world of griefing...
Agreed. Even stunning a mob for a half a second in this game is OP because you can hit them as fast as you can click. So no thanks to the Ice Sword. If it slowed them down a bit then... maybe.
Definite no to the Fire Arrow. Blaze Powder is ridiculously easy to farm once you get a Magma Cream and a Brewing Stand. Just make an 8 minute Fire Resist and camp a spawner. That makes me think no on the Fire Sword too. By late game, I'd say most people have easier access to Blaze Rods than to Flint, unless they spend a good long time digging for it,
No thanks to the explosive Arrow. Explosions almost as powerful as a TnT for 1/5 of the cost (not including Sand). No thanks.
Lightning Arrows are worse than the Fire ones because Redstone is just as easy to get in large amounts as Blaze Powder, doesn't require Nether trips, and is very safe to acquire if you know how to mine efficiently (ie not cave diving).
That brings me to the Lightning Sword, which is about the only one I thought was decent. Restricts usage to the ore with the highest enchantability, and is pretty costly for not doing much. The drawback for me is I would rather make a much stronger sword with way more uses (Diamond Sword), and enchant it. Sure I won't do quite as much damage without the enchantment but I get about 50 times as many hits.
No support.

I think this could work sucessfully... as a mod.
Your thought and ideals behind this is great, but I think for a simple 2-D block game is rather.. much. I don't think this would be supported to get in normal survival/creative worlds. It seems it's nothing but enchantments on steroids.

Not my cup of tea.
