Okay I know that magic revamps in general have been suggested before, however I think that this is different by a large degree, note I'm horrible at art and graphics making if someone would like to make some it would be greatly appreciated.
Magic really needs to be updated in minecraft when it was first added it seemed that minecraft threw most of their weight at potions (splash potions were a brilliant idea mojang.) and sort of lazily attempted a magic system with "enchanting."
This overhall will mainly be dedicated "magic" things in general? Okay? Okay then let me work this up from the beginning...
The first thing you'll notice if this suggestion is added is that death animations will be edited a bit, "overworld" mobs will die by falling over and turning red like normal but the nether mobs will happen like this:
Wither- The wither will slowly start to turn to dust, the dust will condense and turn into the nether star.
Magma cube- the magma cube's crust will break and the lava will pour out, the magma will turn into a goo and then separate into blobs (magma cream.)
Ghasts- will start to deflate, they will land and they will evaporate, a small rain will happen and the ghast tear will drop from it.
Pigman- Will drop their swords and fall on them.
Blaze- the rods will spin out of control and bump into eachother, they will bump together and eventually knock themselves out of place, most of the rods will burn up but one or two of them will fall to the ground.
Wither skeletons: The bones will have coal dust breezed off them, the bones turn white and fall to the ground the head might be dropped, but the coal dust will condense and turn into coal units.
Ender mobs:
Endermen- will shake violently and black particles will be shaken off they will eventually stop moving and implode to a pearl, if the pearl isn't dropped it will crack and turn into cyan dust and blow away
Enderdragon- Perfect mojang good job
Okay... now that may have seemed a bit wish-listy but but the death animations reflect the magical capabilities of the items dropped, enderpearls are souls of endermen, so are more magic-ey blaze rods are more mechanical in magic, okay now that that has been stated lets get down to the nitty gritty.
There is wand magic and rune magic let's start with wand magic.
Wands must be crafted with a crystal shard, crafted with ender dust (crafted like blaze powder, substitute blaze rod with a ender bearl) redstone dust and blaze powder, the resulting dust will be combined with water and will turn into a crystal, the crystal will be crafted into a wand like this:
C= crystal
S=stick
p=planks
[]s[]
s c s
[]p[]
the wand must be enchanted at a table and will cost a relatively high amount of XP.
With the completed wand XP will be used as a sort of mana, right clicking on a creature will make it more powerful, seen by the color of the XP bar
Green= least powerful
Blue= most powerful
It will slowly transition to blue with the mobs giving power in order they are presented from first to last.
Passive mobs of all types
Neutral overworld mobs (naturally spawned iron golems, wolf.)
Hostile overworld mobs ( overworld exclusive, can't spawn in nether and end.)
Nether neutrals
Minor nether hostiles (magma cubes.)
Major nether hostiles (pretty much everything else :P)
Endermen
Bosses.
The XP will decrease by a solid amount (only x for every spell, never different for spells), blue power will eventually decay to green however more powerful spells will require a higher color of blue.
A spellbook can be bought from villagers or found as loot from chests, it will cover rune shapes (covered in rune magic) and wand spells.
Now lets discuss brewing.
Regular water can't be used! It's infected with pond scum and donkey spit~! Instead you must use purified water, it requires a new block to be made in the game, refining stone, this is crafted with sugarcane and cobblestone, it would be like regular cobblestone but the underside would look almost like a trapdoor, it would produce the dripping texture that is used when water is right above a celling, however it would accumulate into purified water, this water could be used for brewing all current potions, it's mainly a minor tweak to brewing however.
Now finally rune magic:
Rune magic starts with rune dust, there are three types, each type is only effected in the respective dimension, rune dust can be used for spells or for enchantments, enchantments would finally be able to be chosen now however. Rune dust must be activated by enchanting it, you can enchant it by stacks, it would cost a relatively low amount of XP.
Earthly dust, earthly dust is relatively easy to craft but is the least powerful, it's crafting recipe would be
Lapis= L
D= Dirt
[]D[]
LDL
[]D[]
earthly dust would only be active in the overworld it could be used to do the least powerful enchantments.
Next tier would be nether dust, it would be crafted as the following:
Netherrack= N
Soul sand = S
Nether quartz= Q
Glowstone = G
Lapis = L
[]Q[]
N S G
[]L[]
It is for mid tier enchantments and spells.
And finally end dust, crafted as the following:
Ender powder (see above) = P
End stone = E
Lapis=L
[]E[]
P P P
[]L[]
This is for the most powerful enchantments and spells ingame, now onto runic magic, okay firstly: Hair has a rare chance of being dropped by a mob/player and will be used in runic magic, the hair will be placed at the center of the of a rune, it will affect the player that dropped it or the closest member of the species of mob that dropped it, the rune would then be activated by right clicking on it, the hair would be consumed and the affect would be transferred to the target no matter where they are.
Well I don't really know a good way to end this without it seeming as if it's cut off…. How about…

I don't really care if you click the green arrow, but if it makes you feel like you make me feel good...
So I've been on a server with magic, I honestly tried to learn it but I got really lost. Now I consider myself a pretty smart guy and I do t think a lot of kids will learn how to do this and not a lot of people would even bother. The potion thing seems really complicated too and to me, magic doesn't really feel like its in the game. Suddenly adding all these things like wands and runes and magic seems unnescessary. Deciding enchantments is overpowered and do you actually see yourself using a lot of these "spells"
Death Animations: Nope. Far too complex and probably would look extremely weird and lag games. Other 'Magic': Nope. We do not need generic and clichéd wands and other silly wizardry in Minecraft.
