Hey everyone, another suggestion here, and it focuses on the varieties of tools we have.
We have multiple kinds of coloured things, Wool, Leather, and the new stained hardened clay. but what if we had Coloured Wooden Tools?
These tools are purely decorational, and have a special reason for these. here is some examples:
1: In a special kind of map, You could have a blackish/purple item and call it an Obsidian Axe. this axe would be with high level enchantments like Efficiency V and Unbreaking 3.
2: Love adventure maps? Several map makers would love coloured tools added in their maps. from Crystal to Titanium, map makers can add special colours in their tools to make them special, without relying n a mod or texture pack.
3: Looking cool. With wooden tools, you can make weapons/tools that look awesome, but still useful. the disadvantage: like leather armour, they are a weak tier and may need 3rd party programs to get a higher enchantment to make the tool similar to the real thing.
I could post images of the idea soon. How to craft it is easy. just like leather armour, place the tool in the crafting and add your dyes in. to wash it (remove all colours), put it in a water source.

I like this idea, useful for distinguishing teams.
Which can already be done with armor and certain kinds of server plugins anyway. Handheld weapons won't be the best "Oh, I know what team this person is on!" indicator.

It could still be. And I like the idea of variation. Though I support the concept I suggest talking with the guy in charge of the whole "Multicolored wood-items"-thread Instead of straying off with a lesser thread suggesting the same thing for all practical purposes .
Sooo useful. Dyeing tools, another 'feature' that will probably ruin texture pack creativity. I also do not honestly see a use for this. Sure, an 'Obsidian Axe' might be cool but Mojang not just add an NBT tag to change textures? I doubt this 'adventure' map function would even work with texture packs.
But not really though. Teams are gonna look at their allies/enemies and not exactly their tools for clarification...

Welcome to things that happen in internet forums.
What Deonyi said, it kind of scrambles the integrity of texture packs.

What an overreaction. It was only an example! and they have done it with leather armour, so they can with wooden tools! And how can it ruin texture pack creativity? they may modify it, but it wont ruin it at all.

This is different than that topic. this topic uses dye colours, not the wood from trees.

I am certainly not overreating. Just because they have done it with armour does not mean that Dinnerbone or jeb is willing to do that again.
When I talk about texture packs, I said creativity. Many packs use textures with leaves, metal fittings etc. for their wooden tools. I don't think they will be happy when they have to make an overlay.
Also, many packs have a wood grain texture; I don't think obsidian is exactly very grainy, is it?
